Animal Rights
There are many things the scientific world is trying to keep from consumers. Unnecessary and unprofitable, not to mention cruel, animal testing. Many times these tests are being done unknown to the consumer and are only proving information that the consumer already knows. Such as the fact that shampoo and other hair care products burn ones eyes. We do not need to pour chemicals into defenseless rabbits eyes to prove that.
Many scientist agree that these tests are senseless and cruel, to say the least. Let alone, animal testing is often inaccurate and can provide incorrect results. Chlomiphene Is a drug that decreases fertility in animals, induces human ovulation. If scientists had gone only by the animal testing they have done, many children who were conceived using this drug, would not be here today.
Some
tests even seem to be contributing to the medical world, but are not. Endotracheal
Intubation, or the inserting of a tube into the mouth and trachea to help
respiration, Is taught using kittens, small dogs, ferrets, and pigs. This
causes bruising, bleeding, severe pain, and a lingering cough. Animals
often die of suffocation. Most times the animals are intubated more than
once by several inexperienced students, in a single training session. There
are many other just as successful, but no where near as cruel, training
methods. These include; hands-on training using mannequins, human cadavers,
or actual patients. Actual patients are hardly ever used, but when they
are, it encourages students to be more careful as the life of a human is
in their hands. Sarah Krakauer a nurse who says, "People can learn intubation
at least as well on non-animal models as on living creatures. Using models
is less expensive and solves the problem of anatomical differences between
cats and babies."
