| >>Gwen Stefani, one of today's most prominent female artists, has always had some sort of preminitions of fame. >>Born on October 3, 1969, at St. Jude's Hospital in Fullerton, California, she has (along with all the other members of No Doubt) always had a permanent home in southern California. When she was young, she played "musical house" with her cousins. This game was a skewed version of what children usually do when they "play house", the only difference was that the "players" had to sing every word that they would have said during the game. >>Gwen's first musical influences came from her brother Eric Stefani (who would later found the band with John Spence) when he brought home ska records by artists such as the Madness and The Selecter. As she got older, Gwen became more and more interested and into the ska scene in L.A. >>When No Doubt was founded in 1987, Gwen shared vocals with John Spence. She quickly became the sole vocalist, however, because tragically John Spence killed himself unexpectedly and devastatingly. >>No Doubt played to ska fans at clubs and parties, but soon No Doubt started making music that can not be classified by any genre but their own. Each band member having such different influences in music contributed to this. Mixing all of their own personal preferences together has created the distinguished sound that No Doubt is today. >>Gwen, of course, is not only known for her music. She has an amzing sense of fashion -- her own sense. She has been making and designing her own clothes (unprofessionally, of course!) since her mom made her a costume as "Maria" in "The Sound of Music" in highschool. >>Gwen Stefani is so amazing to people because she's not "rock-star" material.
