Tony Kanal is the bassist for No Doubt and is one of the most influential and prominent figures of No Doubt. He's a perfectionist. An extreme perfectionist. He has been with No Doubt since the early 1990's, replacing the former bassist of No Doubt. He has always been a sort of "manager under the manager" of No Doubt.
Unfortuneatley for him, Tony is known throughout the music world for his notorious break-up with No Doubt lead singer Gwen Stefani. They had been going out for six years, and when Gwen thought that Tony was on the brink of proposing, he dunped her and broke her heart. Most of Tragic Kingdom and many songs on return of Saturn have strong elements of that breakup, and some very harsh lyrics in certain cases. If you only went by these, you'd probably think he was a bit of a, how can i put this? well, an asshole. The good thing is that Tony really does feel bad about that, and he thought it was the right thing to do. Him and Gwen are still really good friends.
Recently, Tony said in his Rolling Stone interview that unlike the other members of No Doubt, he has no other hobbies. His number one "hobby" is No Doubt. He spends all waking hours of his organizing practices for No Doubt, keeping track of concerts, or practicing for them. He is truly an excellent example of a dedicated band member.
