Background: As a navy seal John "Stronghold" Avery was the top of his class, until one day as he was on his last training session. Members of his outfit had been held down in a jungle swamp, outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by his drill instructors. He was the only man left to save them. He thought he would be fighting an army of instructors, which in this case were robot dumbies. The navy didn't mind destoying these things, they could be bought a dime a dozen from an outside contactor. So, He loaded up with as many guns as he could carry, set out for the dropzone and save his friends. However, he was being timed and if they were not saved in tme they would be drowned in a death trap. The human instructors thought he was so good that they risked the lives of the men under him.
On the way however John encountered real life kidnappers who were tortureing an innocent bystander. he went out of his way to save the victim. it was just to bad that it took time off his hands and his men were killed. The Human instuctors were so upset with John that they gave him the same "punishment" as the kidnapper who tortured the victim. He was whipped with a cat-o-nine tails, a whip with nine lashes on it to inflictmore damage. He was scourged for his inaction to save his team mates. After that John left the service to join a monastery, where the preists being bullied by the local crime boss. John wanted to take action but the Monks wouldn't allow it. John fought anyway and got rid of the crime boss. The monks gave him the nickname the "The Scourge" because of the scars on his back. From that day on, John Vowed never to be on the wrong side again.
