Testament is as mysterious as he is deadly. Son of an Irish priest, given the birth name of Kain, he was exposed to the religious wars that grew out of control in his Ireland homeland. His father was a strict man, slightly hypocritical and turned cold and steel-hearted when Testament's mutant abilities of shape-shifting and misting surfaced. His mother protected him until his father was murdered.
Kain was removed from his mother's care shortly after the death of his father by men belonging to a religious sect who believed mutants were merely posessed people. Under the guise of keeping Kain safe, they kidnapped him and kept him prisoner in thecatacombs of a castle at the farthest ends of Ireland. For years he was repeatedly subjected to religious conditioning, exorcisms, and torture. Kain grew from a young person into an adult at this place, but how many years of his life were spent buried in this place he did not know.
One night Kain had been taken to the torture room, where his arms, legs and head were strapped to a table. A mouth piece had been shoved into his mouth by one priest while another had soaked his ankes with water. Metal straps attached to wires were then wrapped around his ankles. Over and over again he was electrocuted, the voltage increasing each time. The final time the switch was flipped, the shock was so incredible Kain literally disappeared off of the table. A cloud of mist had formed over the place where Kain had been held captive. The men ran out of the room because they did not know what had happened.
Kain spent several hours in his mist form until he figured out how to switch back. He then gathered each "priest", strapping them one by one onto tables. Just before dawn Kain made a final sweep of the castle to make sure he had caught everyone. He returned to the catacombs to release all of the mutants held captive there. On his way back to the room where he had left the men he came across a scythe with a shining blade embedded into a steel handle. Taking it with him, he passed a conservatory. A suit bag was hanging on a coat rack. After unzipping the bag, Kain found black pants, a black shirt, and a priest's collar.
The men who were strapped to the tables were terrified when they saw Kain enter the torture room .... a rosary in one hand, a crimson sash around his shoulders, the white collar snug around his neck, and a steel scythe in his hand. Kain offered each man the opportunity to confess their sins before he slaughtered them to death.
Since that fateful night, Kain has sojourned the world. Those he protects and those who fear him only him as Testament. |
