How did they come up with the name The New Left? Kyle Cook thought of the band’s name, New Left, which originated from a book recommended by Moon Zappa. At the time Moon was dating Paul Doucette, the Matchbox Twenty drummer, and she talked about this book that had a political paper called the New Left. Kyle thought it sounded kind of cool. Who is in The New Left? The New Left is Kyle Cook on guitar and vocals, Brett Borges on percussions and John Kibler on bass guitar. Do they have an album? Not yet, but they plan to release their debut in 2004 What does their music sound like? What are their influences? The New Left's sound is heavily influenced by classical sounds like the Beatles. Their sound will stray away from the typical top 40, modern rock type of sound that matchbox twenty fans are used to. Can I hear any of their songs on the website? Yes, there are two songs that you can listen to on this website. They are "Overboard" and "Dotted Line". Be sure to take a listen. Have they played any gigs? Yes, they have played 5 gigs. November 25, 2001 - They played two shows in Frankfort, Indiana at Frankfort High School Auditorium. These first shows helped benefit two great causes, The Clinton County Boys & Girls Club and the United Way's September 11th Fund. December 1, 2001 - They played at Birdy's in Indianapolis, IN Week of December 2, 2001 - They opened for the Barenaked Ladies in Indianapolis, IN January 11, 2002 - They played at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL |
