A few days ago marked the 27th anniversary of the death of the so-called "King of Rock & Roll" Elvis Presley. Although no one can dispute his influence, his popularity, or his impact on not only rock music but popular culture in general, it really pisses me off that he is credited for the creation of that music and those who really started rock music are either dismissed as "early R & B" (huh!?) or flat-out ignored.
The truth: There is no difference in the music Chck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Bo Diddley, and other Black acts were playing back then and what Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent and other White acts were playing. This is one of the most idiotic lies I've ever heard. Some say that the White acts injected country music into their blues. Yes they did but if you listen to Chuck Berry's "Maybelline" or Bo Diddley's "Bo Diddley", you'll hear elements of country in those songs as well; both coming before anyone heard of Elvis. Where's the country in Jerry Lee Lewis' songs and what's the difference between his music and Little Richard's? Nothing! What about Bill Haley & the Comets, who had the first No.1 hit in Rock & Roll history in 1954? Where was Elvis then? What about Alan Freed, who gave Rock & Roll its very name in 1952? At that time, there were absolutely no White people playing Rock & Roll music. If it's not the so-called "element of country music" that makes the difference then it must be the persons race to these White liars! If thats so the I guess Jimi Hendrix wasn't Rock & Roll, he was R & B. It's time for you people to get real, be honest, and acknowledge the truth: Elvis didn't invent anything, he stole it! Well I guess that's just the way those people are...
I encourage any white person who sees this to e-mail me about this subject. If we can at least start to have an intelligent dialogue on the reason why you cannot consider any Black person your equal we will all be better off.
