Changing Places
PART 30

Later that night Maria and Michael were both working and the café was busy. It was so busy in fact that Mr. Parker was helping Michael at the grill. But they weren’t too busy as to not notice each other. Every time Maria came to pick up an order her and Michael would stare at each other for a moment before she’d remember that she had to deliver an order and move on.

Maria finally managed to take a break and headed back to the break room. She leaned against the lockers to catch her breath when suddenly she felt herself being pressed more firmly against them. She opened her eyes and saw Michael standing in front of her with a look of desire planted firmly on his face. She knew what that meant. “Michael, whatever is going on with you three, it must be affecting you now.”

“I don’t care.” He said before he pulled her face close to his and Maria’s eyes drifted shut again as his lips molded to hers, his tongue pressing them open. She felt, rather than heard a low moan escape him. Her arms slid up to his shoulders and without even realizing she was doing it. She wanted him as much as he did as their lips met again and again.

Something ached deep in Michael’s body and it demanded a response. Hunger and yearning raced thorough his veins. Michael was overwhelmed with sensation. He felt like he had waited a million years just has her in his arms. When the madness threatened to consume him, he broke away and stared down at her. She looked as dazed as he felt. Her eyes opened slightly, and her breathing was heavy.

Lucky for both of them, they heard Jeff Parker’s voice calling for Michael but did not enter. Michael let go of his hold on her and let her slide to the floor. At the same time they said, “We better tell the others.”

Liz and Max were in his room studying and trying to behave. She was sitting on his bed while he stayed a safe distance from her at his desk. Although the distance didn’t seem to stop them from having lustful thoughts, especially since Max couldn’t believe that Liz was lying on his bed. It was something he had dreamed about. He pulled his attention away from her and back to the book in front of him.

Liz felt Max’s gaze leave her and she looked over at him. She noticed that he wasn’t studying from his Biology book like they were supposed to. “Whatcha reading?”

“An astronomy book.”

“Why?” Liz asked.

“I’m trying to figure out what I saw in the flashes I’ve gotten.” Max explained.

“Flashes? As in more than one?” Liz asked.

“Yeah, remember I had one this morning when we were in the eraser room. But with everything going on, I just didn’t bring it up.” Max justified.

“And what did you find out? What did you see?” Liz asked. She couldn’t get angry at him for trying not to worry her.

“I saw a bunch of stars and some planets rotating around a larger red star.”

“A red giant, that’s what a red star is. It’s usually a star close to dying. It’s also weaker than other stars, usually astronomers have a hard time detecting them because of that.” Liz acknowledged. She looked at Max, “Sorry, I just really love science.”

“It’s okay, it just confirms I should have told you about the flash earlier, it would have saved me some research time.” Max said. “But I did manage to find a diagram that looks like what I saw.”

He flipped the book around and showed her the picture. She rose from the bed and came up to him so that she could see it clearer. It was a large photo like one taken from satellites but it wasn’t a close up shot. She quickly read the caption and saw that it was a distant galaxy that scientist had only gotten a vague view of. “The Whirlwind Galaxy.”

“I saw the same planet in both flashes I got, I think I saw your home Liz.” Max stated. Her proximity to him was affecting him greatly, especially when her hand came up and was playing with hair at the nape of his neck. Her fingers on his bare skin felt like fire but as quickly as it started, Liz gasped and pulled her hand away.

“What?” Max asked confused.

“Look.” Liz said as she lowered her hand to his arm and ran her fingers along his skin. As she did, Max saw what had made her gasp in surprise. Her fingers were leaving trails of glowing light.

“Liz, how is it happening?” Max asked.

“I don’t know. I don’t what is happening, all I know is that I need you.” Liz rasped out. “I need to feel your touch, your skin…your lips.”

To drive her point home Liz’s lips descended on to his in a greedy kiss. He instantly responded and kissed her with all of the fervor he felt. Repressing their hormones had driven them to the point that they were not slow and gentle but hard and desperate. Max didn’t even seemed to be surprised when Liz’s small hands started unbuttoning his shirt and pushed it off of his shoulders. It was only then that they broke the kiss.

Liz pulled away so she could look at his newly bared chest. He was considerably more muscular than she had imagined. He was slim but firm and toned in a way that Liz found very appealing. On impulse she reached out and ran a finger over his muscles tracing from one to the other. She felt him shiver slightly under her touch, and Liz looked at his face. He had his eyes had closed and looked to be enjoying her exploration. She grabbed his hand and pulled him closer to her. She let her fingers run over his shoulders, which were quite broad. Then ran them down his chest as she reveled in the feel of his warm skin. Max was passive and let her explore him for several minutes before he opened his eyes and looked at her with a considerably darkened gaze that was burning in desire. It was his turn.

He pulled her close again but instead of kissing her mouth, his lips went to her collarbone and he began to trail kisses up her neck. His lips claimed hers in a soft kiss. His tongue ran gently across her lips, and they parted to him. He explored her mouth as he pushed her legs farther apart. Her legs straddled his hips and his hands ran up her thighs.

Liz’s body felt so overwhelmed with the throbbing pleasure he was creating that speaking was almost impossible. Her teeth had to sink painfully into her lower lip to keep from crying out, begging him to ease the ache that was building inside her. He was tall enough to lean over her, kissing her deeply while she lay on the desk. She gasped softly against his lips as she felt him press against her. One hand held her head, fingers lacing into her hair, and the other wrapped around her waist stilling her instinctual need to move upwards, against him.

Liz let out a moan of frustration when he stopped her. Max lifted his head and Liz could feel him staring down at her. She gripped his shoulders in her desperation, trying to pull him closer to her. She could feel something close to defeat flow over him as he leaned back down, his breath hot against her neck. His mouth ran another trail of kisses until it reached to top of her sweater and he began to undo the small buttons that hindered his progress. He pulled the flaps aside and saw an image that he was sure would be burned into his brain forever, Liz’s naked chest.

Liz felt Max’s hot mouth on her body; his lips ran over her hot skin that was so sensitive, she could feel every kiss, every breath a thousand fold. When she felt his mouth close over a taunt nipple that was thrust outward as she leaned back wantonly against the desk, she gave up trying to keep silent and let out a loud moan. But the moan was cut off by the sound of pounding on Max’s bedroom door then the sound of Michael’s voice could be heard. “Open up. Open up now.”

Max and Liz jumped apart and quickly tried to right themselves. Liz quickly redid her buttons where as Max forgo his buttoned shirt and slipped on a T-shirt before quickly hurrying over to his door and unlocking it. He was thrown backwards as Michael shoved the door open. He sought out Liz and quickly said, “Come on. We’re going home.”

“What? Why?” Liz asked.

“Let’s just say that the ‘ailment’ you and Isabel has been suffering from has now hit Michael.” Maria explained. “It happened downstairs.”

“You two were making out downstairs? In the café?” Max asked.

“No, in the breakroom.” Michael answered as he studied them. “What were you two doing in here?”

“Nothing.” Both Max and Liz said at the same time. Liz grabbed her stuff and her and Michael left.

(*(*(*(*(*(**)*)*)*)*)*)

When they reached the Evans house, Isabel and Liz lied to their parents saying that they were going to help Michael study and would be up most of the night. For that reason, they were going to stay at his apartment. The three of them thought it was a good idea to spend the night together, to make sure that none of them snuck away. They were all still feeling the pull to be with the others but thanks to the fact that they were sticking together, were unable to search out their significant other.

To keep their minds off of Alex, Maria, and Max, Liz told them about the flash Max had seen. “The picture that I saw of the Whirlwind Galaxy is far enough away that scientists can’t tell exactly what the galaxy consists of just that there is enough stars to qualify it as one. So you see, there could be planets there that they haven’t been able to see. Max said he thought that the planet he saw in both flashes was our home.”

“But how is he seeing it if you don’t remember it?” Isabel asked.

“I’ve gotten flashes of Max when he was younger, as young as a toddler. But we don’t remember anything from before we broke out of the pods. So what if what he is seeing is before we were put in them? Maybe whoever was with us on the ship put us in the pods for safekeeping?” Liz reasoned. “That what Max was seeing was our last glimpse of home.”

“So why do you and Max get flashes but the rest of us don’t?” Michael asked.

Liz shrugged. “Maybe it’s because of the connections we experienced. Neither of you have connected with Alex or Maria.”

“And I don’t intend to.” Michael stated.

Liz and Isabel didn’t say anything in response. They knew that Michael was sensitive about his life and wouldn’t want anyone to be wandering around in his head. “It doesn’t matter. At least now we have an idea of where we’re from. We better get some sleep, even with everything going on, we still have school tomorrow.”

“Oh joy.” Michael griped.

But the next morning they found they didn’t have to worry about what their traitorous bodies might do if they encountered their humans. When they woke up, they found that whatever they had been suffering from was gone. It was hard to explain how they knew but it was as if the cravings they felt had simply disappeared. It was both a relief and regret because with it gone, they had no way of exploring to find out what it was. So they simply chalked it up to another thing they didn’t have answers for and went about daily business.

PART 31

Liz thought that things were going great for the group in the few months that followed. Things had not been so quite since before the shooting and it was nice. Her and Max could just be a couple, a normal couple. They could go out on dates, or just hang out and not have to worry about anything.

One afternoon Liz was sitting at the end of the counter so that she could talk to Max without him having to leave his position at the counter. Plus she got to check him out as much as she wanted to. She was idly playing with the straw in her drink watching Max finish up ringing someone up when a guy about her age plopped down next to her. She saw him look over at her and smile before grabbing a menu.

She didn’t know why but something about the guy struck her as familiar. She didn’t know why, he was just an average looking guy. She couldn’t tell how tall he was but he had brown hair that wasn’t as dark as Max’s and he had bright blue eyes. But there was something caught her attention.

She went back to her drink as Max walked up to the new guy. “Welcome to the Crashdown Café, what can I get for you?”

“What do you recommend? I’m new in town and never been here.”

“Any of the burgers are good.” Max recommended. The guy nodded and looked back at the menu. As he did Max asked, “So you just moved here huh? I’m Max Parker.”

“Kyle Harding.” The guy stated sticking out his hand and shook Max’s. “It’s nice to meet someone my age, at least when I start school I can see a friendly face.”

Max pulled his hand back after they shook then motioned to where Liz was sitting. “This is my girlfriend, Liz Evans. She’s a student at West Roswell too.”

“Hello.” Kyle said turning his attention to Liz. He reached out politely to shake her hand as well. The moment she touched his hand the feeling of familiarity grew stronger. It was unsettling because even that feeling was familiar. It’s like she could remember feeling like this before but couldn’t exactly place it.

“Can I get you something to drink, Kyle?” Max asked. He wasn’t sure but he thought he saw something in Kyle’s eyes for a moment when he looked at Liz but it was suddenly gone.

“Cherry coke with lime, thanks.” Kyle ordered.

“I’ll get it right now.” Max said.

But before he could turn around Liz said, “I’m going to get going Max.”

“I thought you were going to hang around for a little while.” Max said sounding disappointed. He hadn’t gotten a chance to really talk to her since she had sat down.

“Yeah, I know. I'm just tired, I guess. I'm sorry.” Liz said quickly before giving him a quick kiss. She grabbed her stuff and hurried out of the café, trying to get rid of the strange feeling.

Max watched as Liz hurried off and out of the café before turning back to his work. He hoped she was okay. She had told him she was tired and he knew that it could be true. So much had been going on lately, between the search for the aliens’ past, researching Pierce, studying, and trying to spend time with him, Liz had been stretching herself. He was going to have to take her out for a romantic night and try to get her to relax.

He got Kyle’s soda and took it over to him. As he sat it in front of him, he noticed that Kyle had finished studying the menu. “Do you know what you want to order yet?”

“Yeah, give me a Saturn Burger and an order of Space Fries.” Kyle ordered. Max turned in the slip to the cook and walked back over to wipe down the counter. As he did he heard Kyle start talking; “You two seem to be close. How long have you been together?”

Max smiled thinking of him and Liz as he answered. “Not all that long but we’ve known each other for years and started out as friends.”

Kyle smiled back at him. “Sounds sweet.”

“Did you leave a girlfriend behind when you moved?” Max asked as he retrieved Kyle’s food and placed it in front of him. He turned his back to him for a minute to refill his drink. He set it down while Kyle answered.

“No, not quite.” Kyle stated. “I do have someone but it’s complicated.”

“Isn’t it always?” Max joked thinking about all the difficulties he and Liz had gone through to be together. “Well I hope things work out for you.”

“I’m sure it will.” Kyle said with a smile that Max thought showed that he had some kind of inside joke that Max didn’t know about. He wandered if Kyle did this with everyone or just him. The smile was brushed away as Max asked, “So who did you move to Roswell with?”

“My dad.” Kyle answered with a tone that Max couldn’t tell if it was distaste or something else. “He has some business here to take care of.”

“And you got dragged along?” Max asked.

“Yes and no. I usually mind being moved around but I wanted to come see Roswell, heard a lot about it. So do you know any aliens?” Kyle asked slyly.

“Umm, no. It’s just something to lure the tourists in to spend money.” Max said feeling uneasy. If someone had asked him before the shooting he would have played with them, telling them some silly story about the crash or something but now he looked at it in a totally different way. Dating an alien would do that to you. “What about you?”

Before Kyle was able to answer an older gentleman who must have just entered the café, came up next to Kyle, “There you are son. I was wondering where you had gotten to.”

“Got hungry. Didn’t feel like waiting around for you.” Kyle explained to him. He motioned to Max, “Making new friends while I eat. Dad, this is Max Parker, Max this is my father Ed Harding.”

“Please to meet you sir.” Max said politely as he shook his hand.

“Max’s parents own this restaurant and he’s lived here for a while. He was just telling me about Roswell and some of the people in it.” Kyle explained.

“I’m sure my son has been interrogating you on the local population of females.” Mr. Harding joked. “I’m sure Max knows all about them, or is there one young lady in the picture?”

“Dad!” Kyle exclaimed. “You’re embarrassing me.”

“Kyle, it’s okay. It’s not like I hide my relationship with Liz.” Max said although he did indeed felt anxious. “Yes, I have a girlfriend, her name is Liz.”

“How nice for you. I’m sure she’s very special.”

“Thank you, she is.”

“Max, don’t pay any attention to him. He just likes to tease people.” Kyle stated.

“Like I said, it’s okay. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff customers say when they come in.” Max assured him. “Especially the regulars.”

“Kyle, we need to get home. You’ve got school tomorrow along with some unpacking to get done.” Mr. Harding stated. He tossed some bills down to cover Kyle’s bill before he started pulling him away. Kyle just waved to him and said, “See you later Max.”

“Bye Kyle.” Max said in reply thinking of what a strange meeting it was.

Warning: Slightly undreamer part a head!

PART 32

Liz made her way into her first class of the day, which was her favorite. One because it was biology and secondly because Max was her lab partner in it. As she walked inside she saw that the new kid she had met the other day at the cafe, Kyle was standing next to their teacher’s desk talking to Ms. Hardy. Ms. Hardy glanced over at her with a smile before waving her over. When she reached the desk she said, “Good morning Liz, I’m glad you got here early. This is a new student who will be joining our class this morning, Kyle Harding.”

“We met the other day.” Liz said politely.

“Good, I’m glad you already know each other. Because I want you to pair up with Kyle as his lab partner. I know that with your help, he’ll catch up quickly.” Ms. Hardy stated.

“But what about Max? I mean he and I have been lab partners all year.” Liz argued

“I’m sure Mr. Parker will be fine.” Ms. Hardy stated. “Won’t you be, Max?”

Liz turned around and saw that Max had come in and obviously heard the gist of the conversation. She saw the disappointment in his face but then smiled slightly at her to let her know he was okay with it. He then turned to Ms. Hardy and answered her. “Yes, ma’am.”

“Good. Liz, why don’t you and Kyle take the table you have already been working on while Max takes one of the spare ones.” Ms. Hardy instructed.

Liz was about to nod looking over at Kyle when suddenly he grabbed her causing her to drop her books but she didn’t pay attention to them as his lips landed on hers. They kissed hungrily as his hands slide down over her butt to her thighs. He grasped a hold of her thighs and pulled them up, instinctively wrapping around his waist. They kept kissing not caring about their audience. He backed her up to one of the desks and laid her out on top of it, then following her with his own body. His weight had just settled on her when something caught her attention.

“Liz? Liz?” She heard Kyle’s voice calling out to her. She looked around and realized that she hadn’t moved an inch. None of what had just happened was true. She was still standing by Ms. Hardy’s desk with Kyle staring at her. He saw that he had her attention and asked, “Are you alright?”

“Uh, yeah. Just didn’t get enough sleep last night.” Liz lied. “Let’s get to our table so I can see what we need.”

Kyle nodded and walked over to the table she pointed to. She followed him, completely confused by what had just happened. She had just had a daydream about a guy other than Max. That had never happened before. She had no idea where it had come from. Sure Kyle was cute but in the short time since she met him, she had never entertained the thought of being with him. First what had happened the first time she met him and now this, it was just too weird. She saw Max staring at her in concern as she passed him but she just smiled at him in reassurance.

No strange visions happened the rest of the class period. Liz did her best to fill Kyle in on what they had been doing in class but made and extreme effort to put distance between them. She made sure there was no accidental contact or anything close. The class seemed to go dreadfully slow but finally the bell rang and they could leave. She had just gathered her books together when Max came over, “Ready?”

“Yeah.” Liz said as she took Max’s hand and turned to leave. But Kyle’s voice halted their progress. “Liz, I was wondering if we could get together for a little more catch up work. I don’t want to get farther behind as the class moves on.”

“Um, sure.” Liz said unenthusiastically.

“Great, just give me your number or I can give you mine so we can figure something out.” Kyle stated. “That is if Max doesn’t mind.”

“Of course not, I understand about trying to keep up.” Max said offhandedly.

Liz wrote her phone number down on Kyle’s notebook along with what time to call. Once she was done, her and Max hurried off to their next class. Once they were out in the hall Max asked. “I heard most of what Ms. Hardy but it was left a little unclear whether Ms. Hardy wanted you to be Kyle's lab partner until he caught up or from now on.”

“I’m sure that it’ll just be until he’s caught up.” Liz stated.

“Because if you're going to be his lab partner, I'm going to working with out one.” Max said then gave her a sly grin. “And I thought maybe I could arrange for some extra tutoring.”

Liz caught his meaning and said, “I think we can arrange that.”

“So, we'll just have to wait and ask Ms. Hardy.” Max stated. “Because that way we’ll know if it’ll be a more permanent arrangement if you’ll with Kyle.”

Liz’s playful mood disappeared at his last statement. “Could we just stop talking about Kyle?”

Max noticed her change in mood and just said, “Sure. We can stop.”

They reached Liz’s next class then so they said a quick goodbye and a quick kiss before Max moved onto his class wondering what had gotten Liz so disturbed.

(*(*(*(*(*(*(**)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)

That evening Liz went into Isabel’s room to talk to her. She was still feeling anxious about the whole thing with Kyle. She had had ended up having three more classes with him and in each of them, the daydreams had continued. At the beginning of one of them when Max had kissed her before they entered, she had a flash that she had kissed Kyle and not Max. Things were getting out of control.

When she entered Isabel’s room she saw her sister was sitting on the bed painting her toenails as she listened to music. “Can I talk to you?”

“Sure. Come in.” Isabel said not taking her eyes off of her feet.

Liz sat at the foot of the bed and started. “Isabel, I'm worried. It's about Kyle, the new kid at school. I'm having these daydreams about him.”

“Daydreams?” Isabel asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yeah, where we're together...you know, together. Like kissing and stuff, it gets pretty heated.” Liz stated. “I don’t know why it’s happening but I don’t like it.”

“Haven't you ever had a fantasy before?” Isabel asked.

“Of course I have but never about anyone other than Max.” Liz answered.

“It’s not that big a thing to have daydreams about other guys.” Isabel explained.

“This is different. It's out of my control. I can't stop it.” Liz stated.

“Look I’m sure it’s nothing.” Isabel said. “We don’t get a lot of new people in Roswell and you probably just thought he was cute and your subconscious took over.”

Liz felt like screaming that what she was experiencing wasn’t normal but Isabel was bound determined not to listen. So she just left her room. She decided she needed some air. But instead of grabbing the jeep keys she decided to take a walk. She told her mom where she was going before heading out the front door.

She wondered around the neighborhood until deciding to go to the park. Her mind wasn’t anymore clear than it was before she started to walk. She wandered over to the swings and sat down in one. She started to sway gently as she thought over what was going on. All she knew is that she felt out of control and she hated it. She always had to be in control of what was going on with herself and now she wasn’t. True, when the whole alien hormone thing had hit she had been out of control but that had been different. She hadn’t been able to think about it at the time, all of her focus was doing juicy things to Max. Now that she thought about it, it shocked her that they had been able to hold back.

As she went back and forth in the swing, she heard a faint rustling. She looked behind her but didn’t see anything. She turned back around and jumped that Kyle was only a few feet in front of her. “Hey Liz.”

“Are you following me?” Liz said accusingly.

Kyle looked at her innocently, “What are you talking about?”

“This.” Liz stated pointing to him then the park. “Not a lot of people are out in the park at this time of night. So you had to be following me.”

“Liz, you sound a little crazy.” Kyle said. “I’m just walking through the park; I got tired of all the unpacking at my house so I split. I didn't plan anything and I’m not following you.”

Liz couldn’t tell if he was telling the truth or not. His blue eyes gave away nothing to her. Instead they seemed to hold her, pin her in her spot. She shook off the feeling and stood up from her swing. “I don’t know what is going on but whenever you’re around, I feel strange. It’s like you're doing something to me.”

“Am I? Or is your natural magnetism pulling you to me?” Kyle asked with a raised eyebrow.

Kyle walked closer to her. They were now less than half a foot away from each other but it seemed like less. Liz could feel the heat coming off of his body and her own traitorous body responding. She looked up in his eyes helplessly and said, “I'm with Max.”

“I know.”

“We belong together. I’ve always loved him.” Liz whispered in protest to what was happening between them. “I don't want anyone but him.”

“I have no doubt you believe that.” Kyle said with conviction and sincerity, “But then why are you here? Why are you letting me do this?”

With that said he closed his lips over hers in a fiery, passionate kiss, his arms wrapped around her tiny waist, holding her tightly against his body. Even though Liz was frozen into place at first, her body reacted immediately. She kissed him back with the same amount of urgency and need and wrapped her arms around his neck, almost against her own will. She felt like something snapped within her and she was reacting on pure instinct. It was like the energy that was always inside of her because of her powers reacted to him.

Kyle’s lips on hers were hard and demanding, and Liz was thoroughly enjoying it. There was no tenderness, no softness in the kiss like with Max, only need and want and lust. She felt Kyle swiped his tongue over her bottom lip, but he was not asking for entrance, he was demanding it. Liz was in no place to refuse him, although she knew it was wrong, logic had left her the second his lips had touched hers. Their tongues tangled with each other, making the kiss even more fervent and wild. That’s when a flash suddenly hit Liz.

**Flash**
Liz saw herself standing next to Kyle, their hands joined. They were in the middle of the desert and one of the symbols was in front of them.
**Flash**

Liz gained the use of her senses and her body again as the kiss broke. She looked into Kyle’s eyes again and asked. “Who are you?”

Kyle released his arms from around her and started to back away. His eyes never left hers as he said, “Just think about it and it’ll come to you.”

He turned away from her and hurried off. It took her a minute but Liz hurried after him. As she turned the path that would take her towards the fountain, she saw nothing. Kyle had completely disappeared. She headed away from the park; she needed to get some help.

PART 33

Liz knocked frantically on Michael’s door. She normally would go barging in but it was late and if Michael was woke up suddenly he might freak out and try to use his powers on her. She heard a grumbling on the other side, a thud and some mild cursing. A minute later the door was opened to a ruffled looking Michael. “What are you doing here so late? Did something happen?”

“I'm in trouble, Michael. I don't know what's happening to me.” Liz said frantically looking around wildly. “Can I come in, please?”

Michael saw the anxiousness in her eyes and hurried her inside. He guided her to the couch and sat her down. “Tell me what’s going on?”

“I kissed Kyle.” Liz blurted out.

“You what?” Michael asked not able to believe what she had just said. She had always lusted after Max so it was strange to him that she had thought about let alone kissed another guy.

“I don’t know what happened. I’ve been having these strange fantasies all day about him and tried to talk to Isabel about it. She said it was normal but Michael, I swear this is anything but normal. I feel like something is controlling me when I’m around him. Like we’re two magnets that are being pulled together.”

“Enough with the science analogies.”

“Sorry. Anyway after my talk with Isabel I got upset that she just blew it off so I went for a walk. I was on the swings and he just showed up.”

“At the park?”

“Yeah. I accused him of following me but he said he was just out for some air. Then I told him how I was feeling and accused him of doing something to make me feel a pull to him. He said that it was only natural what happened.” Liz explained.

“Then what happened?”

“I told him that I was with Max and that I loved him. He said that he knew that then he kissed me.” Liz stated. She looked up at him seriously and added, “I got a flash when I kissed him, of us in the desert with one of the cave symbols.”

Michael knew what she was implying. “You think he’s one of us?”

“I don’t know, Michael. But what is going on isn’t normal. It almost felt like something inside me was changing. Almost like waking up, something primal.”

Michael put his arm around her and pulled her close. “Don’t worry about it. We’ll find out what is going on.”

Liz nodded as she curled up closer to him and relaxed. She knew Michael believed her and that made her feel better. She felt herself getting drowsy and she was soon asleep next to Michael.

(*(*(*(*(*(*(**)*)*)*)*)*)*)

Liz opened her eyes and was surprised to see that she was in the desert. Behind her was a large rock formation and in front of her was one of the symbols from the cave, the same symbol that she had seen in the flash from Kyle. She looked down to see that for some reason she was wearing a long black evening gown. She felt the faintest of touches in her hair and turned around to see what had touched her. The first thing she saw was the blue eyes. Eyes that were darker than normal from desire but still recognizable, Kyle’s. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here because I’m meant to be, just like we’re supposed to be together.” Kyle groaned as he wrapped one hand into the hair at the nape of her neck, and brought her face close to his. Liz was in awe of the sheer desire she saw burning more in Kyle’s eyes as he leaned down to kiss her.

His mouth molded over hers hard and persuasive, parting her lips with the thrust of his tongue as he ravished her mouth with his. She felt herself weaken from the spiraling pleasure that poured through her, and she clung to his broad shoulders for support. He fell to his knees with her, then laid her down, pressing her hard to the sand as he blanketed her body with his own.

His lips began to blaze a trail of wet kisses down her neck. She noticed that her clothes seemed to have dissolved away as his rough hands roamed over her body, burning her where they touched. His palm closed over her naked breast, his fingers rubbed and teased her nipple. His other hand ran over her abdomen, stroking lower into the triangle of soft curling hair between her thighs.

Liz cried out as his fingers moved inside of her. She could hardly bear what he was doing to her. His mouth moved over her breast, hot and wet, his tongue circled the hardened peak of her nipple. Her nails dug into his muscular back as she thrashed beneath him. He moved his hand away from her throbbing center. His lips raked her body, moving lower against her stomach. His hands ran down her thighs as he shifted his weight between them. His lips soon followed as he ran hot kisses across the inside of her thigh.

Kyle crawled on top of her again, and her eyelids fluttered open. His own breathing was deep and ragged. His eyes were still darkened as they burned into her. He leaned down to capture her lips in a demanding kiss, and his tongue thrust into her mouth. He pulled away and let his head fall against her shoulder as he took a deep breath.

“I don’t want you, I want Max.” Liz argued.

“No, you don’t.” Kyle said simply then, in one hard thrust, he entered her.

It was then that Liz heard someone calling her name over and over. And she recognized it as Michael’s. Her eyes flew open at his request, and her breath caught in her chest when she saw that she was on the couch in Michael’s apartment. The whole thing had been nothing but a dream. She had never felt so much relieve in her life. While in the dream she had willingly been with Kyle, the idea now repulsed her. She saw Michael staring at her as she pulled her knees up and hugged herself, “Why are you staring at me?”

“What were dreaming about?”

“Why?”

“Because I’d like to know why you’re in the condition that you’re in.” Michael said he took her by the hand and took her into the bathroom where she could see a mirror. “Look at yourself. You’re all red and flushed not to mention sweaty. When I came in you were thrashing around on the couch and whimpering. More like moaning.”

“It happened again except this time I was asleep.” Liz explained. “I dreamed about Kyle. The things we did, I can’t get them out of my head. I don’t want to be with him like that I want Max.”

“I know you do.” Michael said calmly.

“Then why am I dreaming about Kyle? Michael, I feel like I’m loosing my mind.” Liz exploded.

As Liz plopped down on the couch Michael sat next to her and tried to comfort her as much as possible. “I’ll find out what’s happening, Liz. I promise.”

PART 34

Liz thanked Michael profusely for listening and believing her before she snuck into her room and got readying for school. She had just pulled her hair up into a ponytail when she heard Isabel yelling that they were going to be late. She grabbed her bag and was out the door in five minutes.

She didn’t say anything to either Isabel or Michael on the drive to school but she did see Michael throwing her reassuring glances in the rearview mirror. When they got to school she headed straight for her locker, and like every morning, Max was waiting for her. Except this morning he didn’t look too happy. “What's going on, Max?”

“I wanna talk.” He said sternly.

Something in his voice made Liz believe that he knew more than she thought about the whole Kyle situation. Liz knew she should have told Max what had been going on but she had been worried about his reaction. “About what?”

“Not here.” Max said. She nodded slightly before gathering what she needed from her locker. When she was done she looked at him, “Lead the way.”

He grabbed her hand and maneuvered the two of them between the crowd of students. Finally they ended up in the same room where she had confessed the truth about her origins. When the door shut she asked, “What did you want to talk about?”

“I saw you, Liz. Last night, in the park with Kyle. I called your house and your mom said you went for a walk. I was going through the park and there the two of you were.” Max explained sounding hurt.

“It's not what you think.” Liz stated.

“How could you kiss him?” Max asked. “You don’t even know him.”

“I don't know why it happened. I didn’t want to. I don't know what's happening.” Liz argued. “It’s like I had no control over what I was doing. Max, I swear to you.”

“What are you talking about?” Max asked confused.

“I'm telling you that it was like I was being pulled towards him and when I kissed him, I saw things. I had a flash of the two of us in the desert.” Liz said.

“Flashes like when you kiss me? I guess that it’s just a normal thing with you then.” Max grumbled menacingly.

“No, it’s not.” Liz argued. “I know you have no reason to believe me but I couldn’t control what happened. I just went for a walk and he was suddenly there. Like he was waiting for me. Something is going on with him that’s not normal. The way I'm drawn to him, it’s like it’s not human. Like my alieness is pulling me towards him.”

“You’re not making sense.” Max stated.

“I know I’m not. I don’t have any idea what is going on.” Liz said helplessly as she plopped on the floor.

Max took a minute to notice how different Liz looked. She looked exhausted and tired. While she was still beautiful in his eyes, he could tell that what was going on with her was taking it’s toll. Any doubts he had were washed away when he looked at her. He kneeled down next to her and said, “I believe you…about everything. But that doesn’t change the fact that you kissed him.”

“I know it doesn’t.” Liz looked up at him and said, “I want you to know that I don't feel anything for him, only for you. You’re the one that owns my heart. And I know I belong with you. I've always known it. I just need to know that you’re with me while Michael and I try to figure it all out.”

“Of course I will.” Max said as he kissed the crown of her head soothingly. They sat there in silence for a few minutes while both tried to figure out what to do next.

Michael decided the best place to start checking out this kid Kyle was to find out as much information as possible. Thinking that his first stop should be to learn more about him, he headed for the office. He knew Isabel always helped out during this period so he figured now would be the best time to get Kyle’s school file.

Thankfully when he walked into the office it was empty except for Isabel. She looked surprised to see him, “Michael, what are you doing here?”

“Helping out a friend.” Michael said. “It’s something I like to do.”

“What are you talking about Michael?” Isabel asked confused.

“Liz.” He answered. “Have you been so blind that you couldn’t see what she’s been going through? I thought you two were closer than that.”

“I don’t know what you’re getting at. If you’re talking about Liz and her little daydreams, that’s all they are. Daydreams. She’s just freaking out because it’s some one other than Max. But it’s normal.” Isabel stated.

“No, Isabel it’s not that simple. If it was do you think she would have looked as bad as she did this morning?” Michael asked. He could see Isabel remembering how Liz had looked that morning, like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders. “Come on this is Liz. Do you seriously think that she would have some hot sex fantasy about anyone but Max?”

“What is happening to Liz, is anything but normal. It’s alien.” He whispered. “Kyle found her in the park last night and kissed her. When he did she got a flash; it was of them in the desert. When they were in the desert, she saw one of the cave symbols. Then last night, she had a rather …detailed dream and the same thing happened again with the symbol. She’s driving herself nuts worrying about it all.”

“Oh God, why didn’t I see this?” Isabel exclaimed.

“I can think of something’s why but it’ll just end up in you being completely pissed at me.” Michael said offhandedly. Isabel glared at him for a minute before she said, “So are you here just to rip into me or for something else?”

“Kyle’s file. I need a copy of it.” Michael stated. “We need to find out everything we possibly can. Especially if I need to prove he’s who I think he is.”

“You think he’s the guy who killed the guy in the picture? And the one who left us those signs.” Isabel stated. She walked over to the filing cabinets that housed all of the files from their class and quickly found Kyle’s. Next she quickly made photocopies of all of them before handing them to Michael. “Take these and get out of here before someone comes. I’ll find you when class is over.”

Michael folded the sparse copies and tucked them into the waistband of his jeans at the small of his back. He nodded to Isabel before slipping out of the office. He headed down the hallway to find a place where he could read over the file in private. Spotting the eraser room he let himself in. Before he could lock the door, it was wretched open and he was standing face to face with Max Parker. “Hate to tell you this Max but you’ve got the wrong alien to be coming in here.”

“I want to talk to you.”

“Well I’m a little busy right now…” Michael explained but Max cut him off.

“I know about Kyle. I know about everything and I want to help find out what he’s doing to Liz.” Max explained. “Liz told me that you were looking into him.”

“Max, nothing against you but I don’t think you’re really equipped for this if Kyle is what I think he is.” Michael stated. Seeing Max’s questioning look he elaborated. “I think he might be the other alien.”

“How can that be? Kyle is the same age as us, if he was the other alien than he’d be old.” Max stated.

“Have you learned nothing from sci-fi movies? There are aliens who can change their appearance. If he’s like that then he could blend in, if he was sent with us to take care of us then he would be the perfect choice.” Michael exclaimed.

Max nodded, “So where do we start?”

Michael pulled out the stuff he got from Isabel and showed to him. “This is everything the school has on Kyle Harding. Everything from his address to transcripts from other schools.”

“ A lot of other schools looks like he’s moved around a lot. I wonder why no one got suspicious about him transferring to a new school right as the year is ending.” Max said.

“My thoughts are that we need to check him out, try to get into his house and see if we can find anything.” Michael explained.

An idea dawned on Max and he said, “I think I might know of a way to get you some time alone in his house but you have to be careful. There’s someone with him that is supposed to be his dad.” Max stated. “He doesn’t know that Liz told me what happened, at least not yet. We talked some when he came into the café and I think he’d believe that I have innocent intentions if I ask him if he wants a tour around town.”

“And then I get in undetected.” Michael summed up. “Never would have thought that Max Parker would be consenting a B & E let alone planning one.”

“I told Liz once that I’d do anything to protect her.” Max stated. “And I plan to do just that.”
