while this is the introduction, the opening to the anime/manga, you'll have to bear in mind that this has been going on for a loooong time ... and that this is actually written (the opening dialogue) as an anime - i will be drawing it as a manga, and perhaps adapting it to manga, but this is the opening specifically of the anime version ... since the first life evolved in some distant part of the universe, good and evil have struggled for dominion, while the dreamfolk, neutrality, fought to keep the balance between the two ... all over the universe these ethereal beings travelled, those of all parties moving with one another, until they found the perfect battleground ... a place where the creatures needed very little to incite confrontations and battles ... a place of volcanic upheaval and wild climates ... a planet with its single moon, deep in the milky way - earth. when they first arrived, it was just as the first primitive dinosaurs had evolved, and the eternal struggle between the carnivores and herbivores had begun, with the few omnivores and egg-stealers standing in the middle ... the perfect battleground for the benaevo and the maloe, and even the dreamfolk ... but the balance was not to last in this time ... |
"The eternal balance ... a never-ending struggle between good and evil, right and wrong, black and white ... but in the end, good will prevail, right? If that's what you think, you're dead wrong. Time to take you out of your comfort zone ... You see, the universe is held together by these two forces; obviously there's all the chemistry and physics and what-not, but that's beside the point. What matters is that for the universe to exist, these forces must be in balance. One cannot prevail over the other, or the universe will be torn apart. How can this be controlled, you might ask? That's where we come in. Who are we? A people unseen by most, fierce warriors all while we each have our own tasks and skills. We now walk amongst humans, helping and hindering as we see fit; a law unto ourselves. Immortal, we can be slain; wise, we make mistakes; gentle, we can be vicious. Guardian angels? Only to some, those of the human race needed to survive, to maintain the balance. Elves, or other such mythical folk? Not really, despite our appearances. Good or evil? Neither, and, at the same time, both. We are peace-keepers and war-mongers who stand on the sidelines, starting and ending wars as needed to keep each side level with the other, ever searching for a permanent solution, which may be found in our humans we guard. Our name? We have many, but we are simply the Dreamfolk. And I, Ja'hmeira, am their leader. I haven't always been the ruler of the Dreamfolk, only since the last incident where one side was triumphing over the other ... which side was winning? How am I supposed to know? My memory's not infallible ... it was, after all, sixty-five million years ago ... There is still a lot of conflict as to what caused the extinction of the dinosaurs, but the most popular scientific theory is that a meteorite or asteroid collided with the Earth, somewhere in the vicinity of the gulf of Mexico. At least, that's the theory in your comfort zone, but we removed you from that, remember? We caused the extinction of the dinosaurs ... or I should say, most of my people under the reign of my predecessors. It was the only way to restore the balance, to end things as they were ... The majority of our number, including my predecessors, gathered together and pooled their power, sacrificing themselves in an explosion large enough to wipe out many of the creatures immediately, and causing a "nuclear winter" for several years after ... Thankfully, since then the balance has maintained itself without much interference from us ... when the former leaders died, I was very much thrown into the deep end. But now the balance is failing again ... I suppose I should be grateful I've had sixty-five million years to learn how to swim." |
