Summary: A chance reunion between old lovers leads to something they may regret Note: This is written in a ‘then and now’ sort of way with the ‘~~~~~’ signaling a shift in time. Title from Alanis Morrisette song of the same name It was still dark when Adam woke up, but that was the last thing on his mind, as he lay naked on the hotel bed, looking out at the Chicago skyline, the weight of a tattooed arm resting on his waist, the body it was attached to spooned behind him. This was the last thing he wanted to happen, especially since they were trying to keep away from each other since the break up, but it was too late now. Now all that remained was how was he ever going to face Oscar after this. Feeling the arm tighten gently around his waist, Adam let out what some would call a contented sigh, but wasn't. Stroking the tattooed flesh, Adam thought about how the events of the past few hours had came about. All because he had a headache… ~~~~~ "You still awake?" Sitting in a chair by the window of their hotel room, Adam looked over at a sleepy Oscar before rubbing at his temples, silently cursing out Charlie Haas for the chair shot he'd given him during their match tonight. "Yeah." "You feel okay?" "Just a headache from that chair shot, that's all." "That was a hard one wasn't it?" "Yeah. I think Kurt should show Charlie how to do a proper one." "I've got some aspirin-" "Can't take aspirin." Adam straightened up. "I'm allergic, remember?" "Oh yeah. Got anything to take for it?" "I don't know." Adam stood and walked over to where his and Oscar's bags were sitting. He opened his bag and went through it. "Damn." He muttered. "I'm out." "Want me to run to the store and get you some?" "No, I'll go." Adam walked over to the bed and sat on the edge as he gathered his clothes around. "Sure?" "Yeah, maybe the walk will do me some good." Adam slid on a shirt, jeans and sneakers, before pulling his hair back and sliding on the wire-rim glasses he wore as a disguise. "Want me to come with you?" "Nah. I shouldn't be gone too long." Adam stood. "Half-hour walk both ways if memory serves me right. Want me to get you anything while I'm out?" "Nah I'm good." Oscar settled back against the headboard. "But if you're not back in an hour, I'm walking out of this room naked looking for you." Adam laughed. "What? And scare everyone with that deformity between your legs?" "It's not a deformity," Oscar shot back. "It's the only thing I have to prove I'm not twelve." Adam walked to the door. "Oh believe me, you have nothing to worry about there." "Not with the way you were screaming earlier." Oscar laughed as Adam closed the door behind him. ~~~~~ Adam relaxed when he felt the hand stroke his chest, the touch as familiar to him as his own. He knew Oscar meant well when he offered the aspirin, even though Adam had to remind him of his allergy. But he never had to remind Mark when they were together. After the first time Adam mentioned his allergy, Mark always had a bottle of Tylenol or something similar on hand in case Adam forgot his bottle or ran out. He closed his eyes, knowing it was unfair of him to compare Oscar and Mark, especially this soon into his relationship with Oscar. Then again, cheating on Oscar this soon was unfair too. Mark opened an eye, and without even asking, he knew Adam was awake. He only hoped Adam didn't hate himself for what happened. If there was anyone to blame for, Mark knew it was him. He could've gotten back into his rental and gone to another store when he saw Adam walking around inside. He didn't have to offer Adam a ride back here to the hotel. Hell, if truth were told, he could've stayed in his hotel room and not have gone out at all. He caressed Adam's chest, loving how smooth and firm it was under his hand. Sure he could've walked away when he saw Adam inside the store. But to Mark that would be tantamount to not breathing. ~~~~~ Mark barely listened to Sara as she was telling him about some friend of hers from work though he did manage to keep up a steady stream of polite replies like "uh-huh", "yeah" and "really?" so she wouldn't think he was ignoring her as he stared at a movie on one of the cable channels, but if asked what the movie was about, he wouldn't know. To him, one brainless action flick was like all the others. A half hour after the phone rang, Sara said her "I love you" as did he and he hung up. Sighing, he leaned back against the headboard and watched as previews for more movies showed. Since he and Adam broke up, he had taken to rooming alone, a privilege earned after the amount of years he spent in the business. At first it wasn't so bad; he liked being able to play his television loud without someone complaining and getting to spend as much time as he wanted in the bathroom without someone outside banging on the door, though when he was rooming with Adam, he never had that problem; more often than not, Adam was in the shower with him. He groaned softly, not wanting to think of Adam, but was unable to stop himself. Even though it had been weeks since they had gone their separate ways, Mark still woke up some nights and could swear he could feel Adam's breath on his neck, his arms around his waist and his hair caressing his skin, but whenever he went to confirm this with his own eyes, he would be greeted by nothing, which made going back to sleep harder as his body ached for that contact again. And backstage was the worst. As hard as he tried not to, he became an unwitting voyeur to what went on in Adam and Oscar's relationship, which wasn't difficult given Oscar's open displays of affection toward Adam, not caring if the boys saw them or not, but tempering it whenever someone from the 'outside' such as the mainstream media was there. Mark recalled the times he and Adam hid out anywhere they could in the arenas to get any time alone together. It wasn't that Mark was ashamed of being with Adam; it just wasn't in his nature to be as openly affectionate as Oscar was. Besides, Adam understood, even telling Mark one night he liked the sneaking around because it made things between them more exciting, what with the boys not having a clue as to what was going on with them. It was only after Mark had married Sara the 'sneaking around' had gone from being a game to a necessity. Sighing, Mark got off the bed and pulled his jeans, sweatshirt and boots on, wanting to get some fresh air and get away from the memories. Even if they were still there when he got back. ~~~~~ On impulse Adam wrapped his hand around Mark's, forcing his fingers apart so Adam could slide his in and hold Mark's hand close to his heart as he always had when they slept together. The contact confirmed to Adam tonight had happened and wasn't a dream he was going to wake from in a few hours. Hours… The thought made Adam carefully look up at the clock on the nightstand. Four a.m. Four hours since he left Oscar to go 'shopping'. He knew Oscar must be going out of his mind with worry, but Adam couldn't bring himself to leave. Or maybe, he had to admit; there was a little part of him that didn't want to leave. ~~~~~ Adam grimaced in irritation as he looked over the slight selection of over the counter pain relievers at the convenience store. He contemplated going ahead and buying one of the four brands of aspirin standing there so the pounding in his head would stop, but not wanting to deal with the after effects, he left them alone and headed over to the soda section to get himself some bottled water. Mark pulled his rental up to the front of the store. He planned to just drive around for a little while to clear his head when his stomach not so kindly reminded him he hadn't eaten since lunch at the arena that afternoon, and it was too late to go to a restaurant or even a fast food joint. He turned the engine off and got out of the car, hoping he didn't run into any autograph seekers and there was something edible inside. But as he locked the door behind him, he looked through the large windows and saw someone he hadn't expected to see here at this time of night. Adam. Even with his hair pulled back and his 'glasses' on - a disguise Adam adopted to throw people off - Mark knew it was him. He stood by his car, watching the way Adam was looked over the myriad of soft drinks the way a wine connoisseur would look over a selection. He watched Adam nip at his bottom lip with his teeth, that simple gesture bringing back too many memories of having watched him do that in a fit of passion. Mark remembered one time while making love, Adam bit right into his lip and how tangy Adam's blood had tasted when he had licked at the little cut. He wondered if Adam still had the scar… Mark sighed. He should leave. Turn around, get in the car and go somewhere else. But he couldn't. Clutching his keys in his hand, he walked toward the door. Right in, right out, Mark reasoned though he knew that wouldn't be possible. Right in, right out? Yeah right. Hearing the bell on the door ring, Adam, frustrated by the lack of soft drink selection, watched the reflection given by the glass cooler doors, hoping whoever was coming in wasn't a fan or a robber. But who it was surprised him. Mark. He resumed looking for something to drink but was unable to tear his eyes off the reflection as he 'watched' Mark look through the cooler by the register where the sandwiches were. He watched the familiar grimace Mark would make when he couldn't find anything appetizing to eat. Of course there were other familiar 'grimaces' Adam remembered, like the look on Mark's face when he came… He shook his head sharply, wanting to get out of there before Mark noticed him. He grabbed a Pepsi and after waiting for Mark to move toward the back where the cold meat was, headed for the counter grabbing a travel-sized bottle of acetaminophen to add to his purchase, all the while watching from the corner of his eye as Mark headed over to the soda cooler where he'd been. Everything paid for, Adam headed out into the sheeting rain and wished he drove the rental instead of walking. Jogging over to a bus stop shelter, he knew there wouldn't be a bus around because of the lateness of the hour, but figured he could wait the rain out and flag down a cab when one came by. He glanced at his watch and saw a little over an hour had passed since he left. He chuckled softly as he thought about Oscar's threat and imagined his smaller lover walking naked through the hotel looking for him. "Need a ride?" Adam jumped at the shout, cursing himself out for not paying attention to his surroundings. He watched the passenger side window roll down and sighed when he saw who was driving. Mark. "So what brings you out here?" Adam asked. "I could ask you the same thing." "Had to pick up a few things." Mark nodded. "Heading back to the hotel?" "Yeah." "Hop in." The offer was tempting, but temptation wasn't what Adam was looking for right then. "I'll get a cab." "That how you got here?" "I walked over, but I can wait." Mark looked behind him before looking around. "I don't see any around." "I'll wait." "Could be waiting all night." "Then I'll wait all night." Adam heard Mark sigh. "Adam, this isn't the safest place in town to sit and wait for a cab to come. Besides, I think Oscar might get a little pissed if I left you here to get mugged, mauled by a bunch of fans or picked up by a serial killer. Besides it's pouring out and I don't think Vince would like his rising star taken out with a case of pneumonia. So get in." Knowing there was no chance of out arguing Mark, Adam got into the car. "Good thing there weren't any cops around," Adam cracked as he put his seat belt on. "Might've gotten busted for solicitation." "Ain't anything we haven't done before." Mark pulled into the traffic. "Remember the time after that show in Denver, you and Jay were walking along the road during that snow storm and I pulled up to give you two a lift?" Adam did with a little smile. "Yeah. But Jay and I were desperate for a ride after Paul, Sean and Joanie took our rental as part of some stupid rib." "You didn't seem too desperate when you started rattling off your prices." Adam chuckled. "Remember the look on Jay's face when I said you could have him for half price?" Mark laughed. "He looked like he wanted to smack you." "He did when we got to the hotel." "So that explains the black eye you had the next morning." "That wasn't Jay. That was from the match with Drew. He was quite the stiff worker back then." "In or out of the ring?" Getting Mark's joke, Adam smiled. "Definitely both. Especially whenever he got around Shane." There was a lull in conversation as Mark pulled up to a red light. Mark glanced over at the bag Adam had on his lap. "What did you get good?" Adam glanced at Mark, who gestured to the bag before figuring out what he had meant. "Oh, I got a Pepsi for tomorrow." "Anything else?" "Some acetaminophen." "Headache?" Adam nodded. "A Team Angle special. I'm going to have to get another bottle tomorrow though, this one's only got ten in it and I get a feeling it's going to be a twenty pill job." Mark said nothing as the light changed to green. "So how's Sara?" Adam said abruptly. "She's fine. Job's going well." "That's good. The rest of the family?" "They're okay. Dad's complaining of some arthritis, but other than that he's good." "And your Mom?" "Prepping for sainthood having to deal with him, but she's okay too." Adam chuckled. "That's good." "Yeah it is." There was a slight pause between them until Adam started chuckling to himself. "What's so funny?" Mark asked. "I was remembering the time we went to that bar in Cincinnati and you tried to pick up that Hispanic chick by asking what a nice girl like her was doing in a place like that." Mark did remember and tried not to show his embarrassment. "You had to bring that up didn't you?" "And she turned around and said in a voice more baritone than James Earl Jones, 'I don't know about 'girl', but if you want, we can go round back and I can show you how 'nice' I can be to you'." Adam mimicked before laughing. "I think that was the only time your face was redder than your hair." "You didn't tell me that was a drag queen." "I thought the five o clock shadow would've given it away." Mark chuckled. "We had some good times didn't we?" "Yeah we did." Adam said softly. Mark glanced over at Adam, his fingers itching to reach over and touch him again, but fought the impulse, though it was killing him having Adam so close… Would you mind if I stopped somewhere along the way?" Mark asked. "I didn't get anything to eat after my match and you of all people know how I get when I haven't been fed." "Sure, no problem." "Good, I think there's an all night supermarket around here. I'll only be a couple of minutes." Adam nodded, wishing he asked Mark to take him straight to the hotel instead, but sat back and watched Mark make a left turn to head onto an overpass heading for the all night grocery store. Arriving at the parking lot, Mark parked the car as close to the entrance as he could. "You want anything?" He asked as he took the seatbelt off. Adam shook his head and watched Mark get out of the car and head for the store. Rubbing his aching head, Adam wished he brought his cell phone with him so he could call Oscar and let him know what was going on so he wouldn't worry. He checked his wallet and his pocket for loose change but didn't have enough for the pay phone, so he sat back and waited, wishing he could turn the radio on so his thoughts would leave him alone. This felt so right but so wrong at the same time. He should be back at the hotel laying in Oscar's arms, worn out from making love to him instead of sitting here in a car in a near deserted grocery store parking lot in the middle of the night waiting for his married ex-lover to come out, but being around Mark and reminiscing about the silly shit they did, even for a little bit, was nice. The throbbing in his head getting to him, Adam closed his eyes for a few seconds, hoping it would go away before they got back to the hotel. Finding something edible, Mark paid for his purchases and left the store. With the help of one of the many parking lot lamps glowing in the night, he could see Adam asleep in the front seat. Remembering Adam's complaint of a headache, Mark walked to the car, got inside, and woke Adam, hoping he wasn't having any post concussion symptoms. "Hey, long legs." Mark shook Adam's shoulder gently. "Come on babe, wake up." Startled by the endearment that came from him so easily, Mark watched Adam's eyes snap open and look at him. "Hi." "Hi. Feeling any better?" "Still got the headache if that's what you mean." Mark nodded, digging into his bag. "Here." He took out a box of Tylenol Maximum Strength Caplets and handed it to Adam. "You didn't have to." Adam took the box. "I know how chair shot headaches can keep you awake and with the WrestleMania promotional schedule getting crazy, you'll need all the sleep you can get." "Thank you." "Twas nothing." Mark joked as he started the car. "Find something good to eat?" "Don't know how good it'll be, but it looks edible." Adam chuckled as he opened the box. "There's a bottle of water in the bag as well." Mark said as he pulled out of the parking spot. Making his way out of the parking lot, he watched Adam open the bag and take the water bottle out, placing it between his legs as he opened the Tylenol, shaking a couple caplets out of the pill bottle. He watched Adam open the water bottle and pop the pills into his mouth before taking two deep drinks of the water, some of the water sliding out of the side of his mouth like an invitation. Mark was grateful for the distraction of the traffic, or he would've leaned over to lick the water off Adam's lips right then and there, to hell with anyone seeing them. "Thanks." He heard Adam say as he turned onto the highway. "No problem." "Should be getting back to the hotel." Adam said softly as he capped the water. "Oscar's waiting for me." "Yeah." There was a pang in Mark's chest on hearing Oscar's name. "So everything okay with you guys?" "Yeah. Everything's wonderful." For a second, Mark thought a 'so far' hung in the air, but none materialized. "I'm glad." "Are you really?" Adam looked at Mark. "What's that supposed to mean?" "Every time we're in the back together, you're giving me and Oscar funny looks. Like you want to rip our heads off." "You're seeing things." Mark kept his eyes on the road, knowing Adam was cutting a little to close to the truth. "Mark, I know that look. You gave it every time one of the boys got anywhere near me when we were together." "And what look would that be?" "'Touch him and I'll rip your fucking dick off'." "Like I said, you're seeing things." "And you're a lousy liar. Always have been." "About what?" "I know you're not happy about me and Oscar." "As long as you're happy, that's all that matters to me." "Does it?" "What do you want from me Adam? You want me to act like a jealous lover and chase after you? Pine after you forever? Do you want my blessing? What do you want?" Adam sighed. "Nothing. I'm sorry I even brought it up." "No, don't be. I mean, yeah at first I wasn't too thrilled about you seeing Oscar, but I'm getting used to it. I just need some time Adam. Four years is a long time to be in love with someone and then to have it end the way it did and then seeing you with someone new night in and night out, it's going to take some adjusting." "I know." Mark knew what he meant; those two words saying more than a lengthy explanation ever could. Adam rubbed his forehead. "Fucking head's killing me." "Remember how I'd help get rid of those headaches?" "Yeah, but you're driving so a blow job is out of the question." Mark chuckled, as did Adam. "I never said you had to pine after me," Adam spoke. "You ended things with me remember?" "Because I thought Sara was pregnant. I had responsibilities to think about." "What about when you married her?" Mark sighed as he turned onto the overpass he had come across earlier. "I never meant to hurt you by marrying Sara." "So why did you marry her?" Mark could tell by the tone of Adam's voice this was a conversation long overdue. "I don't want to argue." "Who said anything about arguing? I just want to know why you married her. Simple question." "I wish I could give you a simple answer, but I can't." "Okay. Fine." That was the last thing said between them before arriving at the hotel. Parking in the underground garage, Mark turned the ignition off as Adam took his seatbelt off. "Thanks for the ride," Adam was almost out the door before Mark grabbed his arm. "Wait a minute." Adam sat back down. "What for?" "I don't want to do this anymore." "Do what?" "You deserve to know why I married her." "Listen, we're both tired; you're hungry and I'm loopy because of the headache. We don't have to discuss this tonight." "When then?" "When we're not so worn out would be nice." Adam got out of the car. Mark wasn't far behind, having grabbed his bag and locked the door behind him. It took three long strides before he caught up to Adam. "I just don't want you feeling it was anything you had done." Adam stopped. "Anything I had done?" He turned to face Mark. "Why should I feel like your marrying Sara was my fault? You chose to marry her. Fine. I've accepted it and am over it." "Maybe I'm not." "Little late for regrets." "I know." Adam fidgeted. "I shouldn't have brought the whole thing up." He looked up at Mark. "Why you married her is really none of my business." "Aren't you the least bit curious?" Adam shrugged. "Why should I be? You love her and wanted her in your life. Simple answer." "It's not that simple." Mark moved closer to Adam, taking hold of his chin so they looked into each other's eyes. "I didn't marry Sara because I love her. I married her because I love you." ~~~~~ "He's been gone for hours," Oscar spoke into his cell phone as he paced around the room. For the better part of forty five minutes, Oscar had been calling his co-workers to see if they had seen Adam and so far the consensus had been 'no'. "Frankly, I'm getting worried." "He probably hooked up with one of the party animals around here." Chavo spoke. Sitting on the foot of the bed, Oscar wished he could believe his friend but his gut was telling him otherwise. "I know this sounds stupid, but have either you or Eddie heard or seen anything about Mark wanting Adam back? Maybe seen them together while I'm in the ring for my matches?" "No. Where'd you get that idea from?" "It seems like since Mark's been back, I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop. For Adam to tell me he doesn't love me anymore." "Mark's married, Oscar. And from what I've heard, I don't think he's going to leave his wife anytime soon. Besides, Adam loves you." "It may seem that way, but you never know." Oscar drew his legs up and rested his left arm on his knees. "Damn, everything's been going so good with Adam and me until Mark came back and now…" Oscar stopped himself. "It's stupid I know, but I feel like I'm going to lose Adam." "It's not stupid." Chavo spoke. "Hell, if I were in your position, I'd be feeling the same way. Especially with Mark here on SmackDown and their history together." "That's what worries me. Christ, I wish Mark stayed over at Raw." "He came to SmackDown before Vince called you up, homie." "I know." "You think they're together right now?" "I don't know what to think." Oscar sighed. "I love Adam so fucking much Chavo. I know we haven't been seeing each other long but I just love everything about him." There was a soft chuckle on the other end. "Tell me about it. He was all you talked about ever since you found out you were coming here." Oscar chuckled as well. "Can you blame me?" "No, but listen, call Cena or one of the other suspects and see if Adam's with them. He probably got to the lobby and they waylaid him to be their designated driver tonight." "Yeah I'll give it a shot. Thanks for hearing me out, amigo." "Eh, no problem. Just be glad you got me and not Eddie. You know what he's like when he gets woke up." "Man do I." Both men said their goodbyes before Oscar closed his phone. Shifting his position, he reached behind him for his 'phone book' and looked through the cell phone numbers of his co-workers, his finger tapping on the page before landing on the one number he wasn't sure about trying. Mark's. It was tempting to call the big man, find out what the hell was going on with him and Adam, if there was anything going on. Which Oscar hoped there wasn't. But he didn't give into the temptation. Instead he dialed another number, hoping he didn't come off as a jealous boyfriend with a compulsion to check up on Adam every five minutes, but Adam did say he'd be back in an hour and it had been four since he left. Oscar supposed he ran into some fans wanting an autograph or, like Chavo had told him, ran into some of the guys looking for a designated driver, but with Adam complaining about a headache, he was growing concerned about Adam suffering from a concussion. The phone rang in his ear. If Adam wasn't with the person he was calling, he was going to give into his earlier impulse and call Mark's room. He just hoped Adam didn't answer. ~~~~~ Adam looked at the phone, wondering what story he could possibly give Oscar for being gone so long without calling when he felt Mark's slow, steady breath against the back of his neck. What the hell have I done? He wondered. He swore he wouldn't let himself get involved with Mark again and now here he was, in bed naked, with Mark, both sleeping off the effects of a fierce lovemaking, something Adam hadn't had since he and Oscar had been together. It wasn't all bad though. Mark did help get rid of the headache. But he may have caused another one. ~~~~~ Adam knew this was a mistake, following Mark to his room like this, but Mark's last comment intrigued him and he figured he'd only be gone long enough to find out what Mark had to say for himself and that would be that. Entering Mark's room, he closed the door and watched Mark set the sandwich and the other bottle of water in the mini fridge before sitting on the edge of the single bed. "You don't have to stand all the way over there." Mark looked at Adam "I can behave myself." "I know." Adam walked to the table nearby and sat in the chair that was there. "So, what did you mean you married Sara because you love me?" Mark rubbed his hand over his goatee. "You know I've had a lot of relationships since I got into the business." Mark dropped his hand onto his leg. "Been married before, though it didn't work out." Adam nodded. "Then I met you. And frankly, you turned me upside down. Here I was supposed to be the super scary 'Lord of Darkness' on television and in the back I'm like some lovesick teenager with a crush on the football captain or something like that. Even had me rethinking the whole marriage thing." Mark smiled. Adam smiled back. "I've never regretted falling in love with you. What I do regret was letting Vince talk me into doing that autograph session for Paul. If I had to do it over again, I never would've done it. Never met Sara and never hurt you the way I did." "But you did." "I know." Mark paused. "When Sara and I were first dating, I kept thinking it would be nothing more than a quick fling because you and I were having problems at the time over the directions our careers were going in, but the more I got to know her and be around her while I was off with my hip, the more I started liking her and started falling for her. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why that was; what it was about her that made me have the feelings I had for her. Then one night, it came to me; she reminded me so much of you. Not just the looks because you two couldn't be more different in that respect, but the way the both of you don't take any of my shit and the way you two take care of me even when I don't deserve it. The longer things went on, the more appealing the thought of marrying her became, because I thought I'd be retiring soon and I wasn't looking forward to spending that time alone while you were still on the road, not to mention the thought of having another child sounded appealing. What made it so easy was with you two so alike in personality, it was like I was never leaving you behind when I went home to be with her. Sure the anatomy was different but nothing else was; you both knew how to make me laugh and forget the bullshit going on in and out of the ring. By the time reality hit me over the head and made me see what I had done, it was too late; here I was a married man in love with another man even though the woman I married was the perfect fit for me as well and even though I wanted this marriage to work, I couldn't let you go. Even making love to Sara, I thought about you. Now I realize I made a huge mistake and there's nothing I can do to fix it because I don't want to hurt her." There was another shorter pause. "I thought I had this all figured out you know?" Mark rested his chin on his hand. "Kept telling myself I can have the wife at home and the lover on the road and manage to keep things on a nice even keel; after all, some of the boys have managed to juggle their wives and boyfriends, but when Sara told me she was pregnant, it threw everything out of whack. I knew I couldn't divide my attentions anymore. I had to put my focus on her. Then when she told me it was a false alarm…" A heavy sigh. "I just didn't think things would get so damn complicated. I know it sounds like nothing more than one long excuse, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it." "I think it is a little unfair for you to marry Sara when you were in love with me. Not that I want to say 'I told you so' or anything like that, but..." Adam shook his head. "What's done is done I guess." "I know." Mark rested his head in his hand. "I've made such a fucking mess of things, haven't I?" Adam said nothing. "But like you said, what's done is done and hindsight is always twenty/twenty, huh?" Mark cracked before sobering. “Guess you should be heading back to Oscar." "I should." Adam stood at the same time Mark did. "I know what I said probably didn't make a lot of sense," Mark said. "But it's the only way I can explain why I married her while I was with you." He reached out a hand and touched Adam's cheek. "And while I'm still with her while I still love you." ”Mark…" Adam breathed, wanting to get out of there, but not wanting to break the connection of Mark's hand to his face, the warmth of Mark's hand comforting. "I know," Mark whispered. "I still feel it too. Every time I see you and Oscar together, it takes everything in me to not walk over and pound his head in for taking you from me." ”He didn't take me from you. You let me go." "That's one mistake I regret making." Adam knew if he didn't go, there'd be another mistake made. One he would regret. "I should go." Adam turned, but the gentle grip on his jaw didn't let go. "Mark don't…" Adam looked away, not wanting to get sucked into those intense green eyes of his. "One last kiss?" The request made Adam look at Mark. "Just one last kiss. We never had that when we ended things. Just something for me to remember you by." Adam licked at his lips nervously, knowing what Mark was asking him to do was going to lead to nothing but trouble, but he wanted it as well. That one little reminder of everything they had. Adam shivered when he felt Mark's hand slide from his jaw to the back of his neck and closed his eyes as Mark pressed his lips to Adam's. At that second everything between them; the concerns of other lovers and the pain of their breakup was ceased to exist and all that mattered was the familiarity of each other. Feeling something hit his glasses, Adam broke the kiss and opened his eyes in time to see Mark remove his glasses and set them on the table next to the bag Adam brought with him. He looked up at Mark and going on his own impulse, grabbed Mark by the back of his neck for another kiss but while the first one had been tender, almost remorseful, this one wasn't, not by a long shot. The kiss Adam gave Mark, which he returned in kind, was hungry, demanding and unapologetic in the message it was sending. A message Mark picked up on as he slid Adam's coat off his shoulders, yanking it off at the wrists before moving the both of them closer to the bed and Mark nudging Adam back, their bodies falling onto the bed and each other. The weight of Mark's body felt heavy, almost crushing to Adam, who didn't mind as he began pulling Mark's hooded sweatshirt out of the waistband of Mark's jeans, moaning in frustration when he felt more fabric underneath. Mark parted their lips long enough to take care of the problem by standing up and removing the sweatshirt and the shirt underneath, allowing Adam to see his bare tattooed chest but it would only be for a second before Mark resumed his position on top of Adam, who held Mark tight to him, as though trying to absorb Mark through his skin. There was a pause as Adam and Mark stared at each other, nose to nose and forehead to forehead, their breath coming fast and suffocatingly hot, but not as hot as the other heat coming from them. "I want you so much," Mark whispered. "Same here." "You know if we do this, there's no turning back." Adam nodded. "Sure you can live with that?" "Can you?" Adam rasped. "Are you going to be able to look Sara in the face if we do this?" There was a look of indecision on Mark's face for a second, but it passed as fast as it came before he nodded. "That's all I need to hear." Adam said before pulling his shirt out of the waistband of his pants. For the next few minutes, they wrestled with each other's clothes and the bedsheet, working it down and out of their way before settling up toward the pillows, where Mark removed the elastic band holding Adam's hair back, running his fingers through it before caressing Adam's body, as nude as his. "I love you so fucking much," Mark whispered before kissing Adam's neck, trailing his lips lower onto Adam's chest to lap at Adam's nipples with his tongue, the roughness of his goatee brushing against Adam's skin making Adam hold Mark's head closer before allowing him to go lower; kissing, licking and nipping at Adam's flesh. Mark let out low rumbling chuckles at the gasps Adam let out with the contact, as Mark nipped at the sensitive skin of Adam's groin area. He slid a hand under between Adam's spread legs, teasing the entrance as he had many times before, loving the way Adam's body trembled from the contact. He glanced up and smirked when he saw Adam's eyes were closed and his lips parted, the tip of his tongue poking out every so often, glossing them and making them a potent temptation for Mark, who slid back up Adam's body to kiss Adam's lips again, his hand still touching and caressing Adam's ass. "Want you in me," Mark whispered, his hand sliding from Adam's ass to his cock, which twitched from the contact. Adam opened his eyes to look at Mark. "Are…are you sure?" Mark nodded. "Want to remember how you feel in me." He slid his hand down lower to cup Adam's balls and rolled them gently, loving the heaviness of them, and with a bit of jealousy, knew when Adam came it would be for him and not Oscar. He let go of Adam's balls and got off the bed, walking over to the dresser where his carryon bag sat and took a bottle of lube and two condoms out before walking back over to Adam. Watching Mark, Adam felt his conscience start to get the better of him but when Mark returned, the bed sinking under Mark's weight as he stretched out next to Adam, and kissed him again, all thoughts and regrets went out the window, their lips barely parting as Mark pulled Adam on top of him. "You know what to do right?" Mark teased. Adam nodded as he pulled back, resting on his haunches as he took his time to prep his larger lover, spreading and bending Mark's knees before slicking his fingers, loving the expression on Mark's face when he slid a finger in to work the lube in. Working up from one finger to two, he slid up a little further until he hit Mark's prostate, which made Mark grab the sheets in his hands and arch upward. Adam teased him a little more before sliding his fingers out, he pause for a few seconds to unwrap the condom and put it on, sliding some of the lube he had used on Mark onto the latex before sliding it into the slick tightness. Thrusting slowly in and out of Mark, he reached for Mark's cock, only to have Mark grab his wrist and shake his head as to say 'not now'. Not sure what he was up to, Adam obeyed Mark's wish and left it alone, concentrating instead on not only pleasing Mark but reaching his release as well. Using the headboard, Mark pushed himself down against Adam's upward thrusts, ripples of shivers went through him as he felt the head of Adam's cock hit his prostate, making him gasp for air as Adam's feathery touch to his outer thighs, his fingers simply gliding over the hairs that were there, the sensation making Mark's knees weaker than they already were. He continued to watch Adam as Adam took hold of his legs, moving them over his shoulders as the thrusts became more and more steady and deeper. He watched Adam tilt his head back, wanting nothing more than to reach up, pull Adam down and suck on the skin of his neck until he branded him for life with a mark that would never go away and let people, especially Oscar, know who Adam belonged to. He listened as Adam began whispering and whimpering, two things that let Mark know when Adam was about to come, which he did seconds later, his body writhing and even though Mark couldn't feel the warm stickiness he usually felt when Adam came, he could feel the pulsing of its release. He felt Adam slide out, the emptiness as well as the ache of his own erection making Mark's lower back hurt. He watched Adam gather his composure before taking the second condom and using his mouth, rolled it down Mark's cock, almost making Mark come from the warm heat of Adam's mouth. He watched Adam raise his head before squeezing some lube onto his fingers and using a slow stroking motion, smeared it onto the condom, making the ache that more agonizing as he tried to hold back. Adam moved to straddle Mark's waist and with some help from Mark, lowered himself onto Mark's cock, gasping at how full and thick it was, almost having forgotten how wonderful it felt to have Mark in him. With Mark's hands grasping onto his hips so tight Adam swore there were going to be bruises there in the morning, he rode Mark slowly, wanting to get reaccustomed to the feel of Mark in him. God it was so good. He looked down and saw Mark looking up at him, the love, desire and concern he'd always shown so clear in his dark green eyes. He watched Mark raise his right hand to brush his hair back, his skin tingling at the contact of Mark's fingers on his skin before watching Mark mouth "I love you." A short time later, Adam watched Mark close his eyes before returning his hand to Adam's hip and felt his fingers dig deeper as the thrusting became faster and harder, taking Adam's breath away at the urgency of it. A strangled cry from Mark's throat gave Adam the cue he wanted to ride Mark harder and faster until Mark came, his hips arching upward and his hands making sure he didn't lose grip on Adam. Adam watched Mark relax, his eyes closed and his lips slack. He felt Mark's hands let go of him and slump onto the bed. Adam pulled out before resting himself on top of Mark, listening to his heartbeat as he felt Mark's arms wrap themselves around him, hands stroking, touching, bringing him back to reality and lulling him to sleep… ~~~~~ Adam didn't want to move but he had to. He had to get back to his room and see Oscar. Oscar… Christ how was he going to explain this to him? Adam slid out from under Mark's arm and sat up on the edge of the bed, resting his head in his hands. "You regretting what we did?" Adam jumped, looking behind him to see Mark was awake as well. "No," Adam admitted. "Just worried about what to tell Oscar when I get back to the room." "Don't go." "I have to Mark. He's probably worried shitless about me." Mark said nothing, just looked at Adam. "I have to take a shower." Adam stood and picked up his clothes. "Want me to-?" "No!" Adam snapped. "I just want to take one and get going." "That's not what I meant." Mark snapped though the thought of sharing a shower with Adam had crossed his mind. "I thought I'd call Oscar and let him know I was the reason you got held up." Adam debated this for a few seconds. "I appreciate the offer, but I don't want him thinking the worst." And that would be?" What already happened, Adam wanted to say but didn't. "I should get dressed and go." Mark was stung by his Adam's reaction. "I don't regret what happened," he announced. "I'm sorry if you do, but I don't." Adam paused at the bathroom door. "I'm not saying I regret anything." He looked at Mark. "But I'm in love with Oscar now and I don't want to ruin things." Mark sat up. "Then why the fuck did you let things get as far as they did? Why didn't you fucking stop me? You know why? Because you wanted me as much as I still want you." "You're married for Christ's sake! You shouldn't be wanting me at all!" Adam hissed. "Then why did you come here to my room?" "I wanted to know what you meant by marrying Sara because of me." "Are you sure that's the real reason?" "Why else would I come here?" Mark shrugged. "Damned if I know. Maybe you're not as much in love with Oscar as you're fooling yourself into being." "I'm not fooling myself into anything." ”Sure Adam." Mark nodded. "Keep telling yourself that. Maybe someday you'll believe it." "And what makes you think you know me at all?" Adam challenged. "You think after four years of us being fuckbuddies, you know everything about me?" "I know you better than that little punk Guitterez ever will." "He's not a punk!" Adam shot back. "At least he's not running around like a tomcat in heat while his wife sits at home waiting to hear from him!" "And what about you? You didn't exactly run from here screaming or tell me no." Mark's voice was low and even. "I didn't force you to come here. You could've stopped me when I kissed you. You could've walked out that door when you had the chance, but you didn't. If you love Oscar as much as you claim to, you wouldn't have come here and you sure as hell wouldn't have let me touch you. So don't stand there like the wronged heroine in some cheesy soap opera and tell me you love Oscar when everything we did tonight proved nothing more than you still love me as much as I still fucking love you." The silence in the room was deafening as neither man said a word, but yet couldn't tear their gazes from each other. "You better get showered." Mark leaned back against the headboard. "I suppose you're going to blackmail me over this?" Mark chuckled. "It's a damn tempting thought, but no. Despite how I might've been portrayed on television in the past, I'm not that cruel. Something I thought you'd know by now. I meant it when I told you in Boston I'm glad you found someone like Oscar to love you. But if your relationship with him goes down the crapper, it'll be your doing. Not mine." Adam stalked into the bathroom shutting the door behind him. Oscar was half asleep when he heard the door open and close, but thought it was a dream before hearing a thump and a "goddamnit" uttered. He reached up and switched the light on, revealing a startled Adam. "Hey," Adam said with a shaky smile. "Didn't mean to wake you." "Where the hell have you been?" Oscar sat up on the bed. "It's been four hours since you left here, I was getting scared." "Sorry, but I ran into some of the guys and I got talked into heading out with them." There was something too smooth, too rehearsed about that line, but Oscar let it go. For now. "I'm sorry I didn't take the cell with me," Adam sat on the other bed and got undressed. "I thought I did, but…" "It's okay," Oscar kicked off the covers and sat on the edge of his bed facing Adam. "As long as you made it back safe." "I tried to call but I didn't have the cell and I didn't have enough change to use the pay phone and then there was trying to find one…" "Hey," Oscar pressed a silencing finger to Adam's lips. "It's okay. As long as you made it back in one piece that's all that matters to me." He pushed back a strand of Adam's loose hair. "I love you Adam." Adam looked up at him. "I love you too, Oscar." Oscar swore he saw regret in Adam's eyes but pushed the thought out of his head for now. "Come on, get undressed and get into bed." Oscar waited until Adam was naked before sliding back under the covers, the taller man lying down next to him. He watched Adam close his eyes and drift off to sleep. Something he was unable to do for a while as he wondered where Adam could've been. And dreaded knowing the answer. So this was what it was like? Mark thought as he stared at a blank television screen, the room black as the night that was fading, the only sound in the room was the rattling of the Tylenol in the bottle he bought Adam. In all the time since he married Sara and continued seeing Adam, he never had any idea about how lonely Adam must've felt whenever he had left Adam's room after they had made love - which is what Mark would always call it despite Adam's remark about being 'fuckbuddies' - to return to his and Sara's room whenever she was with him for a pay-per-view or something else. And now… Now Mark figured he was getting a taste of his own medicine what with Adam having left right after taking his shower, pausing long enough to collect his glasses and Pepsi, the band for his hair long forgotten, but not so by Mark who had it wrapped around the index and middle fingers of his right hand like a ring. And he didn't like it one bit. Didn't like the way they left things. Didn't like the words they had exchanged. Didn't like the feeling of emptiness he was feeling right now. And he certainly didn't like the way he felt knowing Adam was probably with Oscar right now, doing all the things they had done only a few short hours before. So this must've been how Adam felt whenever I left him, he mused as he picked up the pillow Adam had slept on, inhaling the scent that was all Adam before sighing. Guess what goes around does come around.
