Evil Dead
What is the Evil Dead Trilogy?
The Evil Dead trilogy is a set of movies starring Bruce Campbell as the S-Mart employee Ashley J. "Ash" Williams. Dubbed by me the 'King of One-Liners,' Ash must fight evil brought upon the world by the Book of the Dead. I highly recommend these movies.
Evil Dead
Evil Dead was the first installment in the trilogy. It was the only true horror movie. In it, Ash and four of his college friends travel to a cabin in the woods for a fun-filled weekend. Inside, they discover the Book of the Dead. Bound in flesh and written in blood, it contains rituals that cause evil spirits to awaken. These demons posess the students. The only way to defeat them? Dismember their bodies.
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
Though some consider this just a remake of Evil Dead, it wasn't. Due to copyright problems, the plot of the previous movie had to be changed slightly. Instead of five people going to the cabin, it was only Ash and his girlfriend. Ash survives the hellish night. He is preparing to leave the cabin, when the evil spirit returns. It gets into his hand, so he cuts it off with a chainsaw. He is forced to battle his dead girlfriend and the other evils in the forest. This movie was mainly a horror, but had some comedy thrown in.
Army of Darkness
This is personally my favorite because it is the only one I've seen. After all the death and destruction, Ash finally thinks it's over. Wrong. The evil returns and sends him and his 1973 Delta 88 Oldsmobile back in time to the 1300s. Ash is taken as a slave, but is discovered to be the 'promised one' that will defeat the evil. When he retrives the Book of the Dead, it awakens the Army of Darkness. Armed with his trusty shotgun and chainsaw, he must battle to return to his own time. Mainly a comedy with a small ammount of horror, this is the only one in the trilogy with two endings.
