Breaking Me | ||||||
You tell me you love me,
But you can stop the lies there, You bound me in chains when I should be free, The pain you cause me I can no longer bear. I let you tell me what to think, My mind was yours to control, Your power overwhelms and I cower and shrink, For I fear for my body and soul. And I can take no longer of this war, Not for righteousness but dominance, My fire flickers and dims in my core, And slowly my spirit and wit has no prominence. Of all the wrongs you’ve done to me, The worst is what you’ve done to you, You’re not the person you want to be, O what love can do! You put me down with angry words, In your eyes I’m just no good, I’ve come to where you’ve lured, Did all you said to the best I could. But did you know through all that time, When you did your best to keep me in line, You lost yourself in your own rhyme, Right or wrong you can no longer define. If perfection is what you seek, Your treasure has yet to be found, Its existence in me is bleak, And in everything from sky to ground. So don’t try to change me, Save us the heartache, Love me as I come to be, The daughter you’ve strived to break. |
