"The evangelical church has been infected with a powerful does of     pessimillennialism, the doctrine of the dark future. Most of the debate   about the end of history centers on a cultural collapse and on how much of the resulting destruction Christians will have to suffer through. These sundry theories tend to create an image of a God who sits by passively, waiting for things to get bad enough before sending his Son down to clean house.  ...Is God really in control of history? ...Where is history going, and how will we get there?" - R.C. Sproul, Jr.

Every position wants to claim Jesus and Paul, but that begs the question. Not all of the following men listed would necessarily identify himself as Postmill, but each one's writings are consistent only with Postmill thought. Among these are: Origen (according to Schaff, "Origen seems to have been the only one in that age of violent persecution who expected that Christianity, by continual growth, would gain dominion over the world."), Eusebius, Athansius (called by Chilton "the patron saint of postmillennialism"), and Augustine of the ancient Church. More modern adherents include J.A. Alexander, O.T. Allis, Albert Barnes, David Brown, John Calvin, R.L. Dabney, Jonathan Edwards, Matthew Henry, A.A. Hodge, Charles Hodge, J. Gresham Machen, John Owen, B.B. Warfield and many of the Puritans to name a few.
