A Hi-tech Project With a Heart

(IsraelWire-10/16) - Ronald and Miriam Markowitz of Jerusalem explained their reason for starting the "Yad Chaim Tzvi Gemach" (Charitable Fund) was not only to perpetuate the memory of their late son Chaim, but equally important to help others in their time of need. Following the death last year of Chaim Markowitz due to complications resulting from his long-term illness, the family searched for a way to help others while honoring the memory of their late son, husband and brother. They reflected on Chaim's prolonged admissions to hospitals during his many kidney transplants and related illnesses, remembering that during one stay, someone loaned Chaim a laptop computer to use for as long as he needed. That small act of kindness explains Mr. Markowitz made a significant difference to Chaim, who suddenly was able to connect to the Internet, download email, and write to others. He was still hospitalized explains the family, but he no longer felt cut off from the world. As a result, the charitable fund was started and the family now seeks laptop and desktop computers, as well as Gameboys, which in turn are loaned to patients in hospitals to assist them during their convalescence. The family explained that many persons are unaware that the old computer they are preparing to discard could bring hours of relief to a hospital patient, or the donation of a Gameboy may bring hours of joy to younger patients. Ronald explained that a Gameboy for example is not too expensive in America, while many hospitalized children in Israel are unable to afford such a luxury, especially at a time when many families are compelled to spend money for specialized care and other medical related needs related to the hospitalization of a child. Contributions can be made in the form of checks, PC's. laptops and game boys. Checks may be made payable to YAD CHAIM TZVI and mailed to POB 43118, Har Nof 91430.
