Dyslexia
Is a specific difficulty in learning in one or more of reading, writing, spelling, and numeracy. It is associated with deficiencies of short-term memory. Dyslexic people often have problems of co-ordination and self-organisation. It is estimated that 4 per cent of the population are significantly affected by dyslexia. Dyspraxia Dyspraxia is an immaturity of the brain resulting in messages not being properly transmitted to the body. It affects at least 2% of the population in varying degrees and 70% of those affected are male. Dyspraxia is a disability but those affected do not look disabled. Autism Autism occurs in differing degrees of severity and in a variety of forms. Autism includes the condition Aspergers syndrome which describes people at the higher functioning end of the autistic spectrum. Aspergers Syndrome People with Aspergers syndrome find it difficult to read the signals which most of us take for granted. As a result they find it hard to communicate and interact with others. Tourettes Syndrome Tourettes Syndrome is a chronic, disorder characterised by tics (quick, involuntary movements (vocal or visual) that occur repeatedly and non-rhythmically in the same way). Tourettes Syndrome begins in childhood and often requires lifelong treatment.
