TOURISM
IN PORT-SAID
Port-Said
is considered one of touristic governorates due to its unique location
on the Mediterranean Sea at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal and
as long beaches, soft sands, blue water and historical and monumental attractions.
The governorate comprises four areas with high potentialities for touristic
development.
SIGHT
SEEING OF PORT SAID
Most
of ist areas can be visited in a short time. Horse carriages are among
the most favourable means for realizing such trips. Interesting tourist
visit may by made to:
PORT
SAID NATIONAL MUSEUM:
Palesinte
St. - Tel: 23 74 19
Housed
in gleaming new building, the Port Said National Museum (Sat-THurs 9am
- 4pm) runs the gamut of Egyptian histoory. Highlihts of the well-displayed
collection include two mummies, an exquisitely worked faience shroud and
painted coffin; Ptolemaic funerary masks; Islamic tiles and mashrabiyas;
Coptic textiles - especially a tunic adorned with images of the Apostles;
and the coach of Khedive Ismail, used during the canal's inauguration ceremonies.
Cool and uncrowded, the museum makes a pleasant retreat from the heat and
hubbub around this part of the waterfront.
THE
MILITARY MUSEUM:
23
July St. - Tel: 22 46 57
The
Military Museum (daily 8am - 3am) leaves a strong sense of the canal's
embattled history. The 1956 Anglo-French-Israeli invasion is commemorated
by lurid paintings and dioramams (notice the headless figures in scene
of Nassar at al-Azhar), whilst another room is dedicated to the October
War of 1973. This gives pride of place to the storming of the Bar-Lev Line,
a heroic feat of arms ultimately wasted by the high command's failure to
exploit Egypt's breakthrough in the Sinai.
SUN-EL
HAGAR:
In
Zagazig, one of the most important monuments. It has the biggest temple
which is of unique design and the only one of ist kind on the coastal region
also tomp bath of XXII, XXI dynasties still be seen till now, 50km from
Port-Said.
A.

considered one of the most important touristic areas. Structural planning
of this area has put in consideration the establishing of 15 touristic
villages with an area of abt 200.000 sqm. for each. Each village will include
abt. 600 summer resort units.
B.
The Coast facing living blocks of the city :

The Eastern Coast up to Balouza :

100.000 to 200.000 sqm. including 350
