Finally, eventually, at last, I MET Lee-Hom in
person! I have been waiting for 2 years, and
this time, I kept my words not to miss him.
I was very, very excited when I got the news
that Lee-Hom was coming to Malaysia on a promo
tour. Initially, the news was Lee-Hom would
have mini concerts in 4 cities in Malaysia,
including KL and Penang. I was overjoyed when
I heard this (about a month before the actual
date). I thought of different ways to obtain
the tickets, no matter by hook or by crook,
coz I'm determined not too miss Lee-Hom this
time. But it proved that it was too early to do
that. As the day came nearer, the presenter for
Lee-Hom's showcase, AsiaOnAir announced that
all the mini concerts except the one in KL had
to be cancelled due to Lee-Hom's schedule.
Lee-Hom had been too busy with the filming of
two movies in Hong Kong and Shanghai that it
was impossible for him to stay longer than 4
days in Malaysia. You can juzz imagine how
disappointed I was. I was upset for more than
2 days over this matter.
Anyway, luckily there was still an autograph
session in Penang. It was like a consolation
but it was still better than nothing, right?
Of course I went to the autograph session!
Together with Pey Jung (For your knowledge, she's
a friend I got to know because of Lee-Hom.
She also own 'A Tribute to Lee-Hom' webpage.),
we planned everything and went ahead for Lee-Hom.
We met at 2.00pm and waited under the hot sun
for Lee-Hom. I have to admit that both of us
are NOT diehard fans. I would not go to the venue
as early as 9 or 10am if the time of the activity
is fixed at 3. Anyway, b4 we reached the venue
both Pey Jung and I thuoght that the autograph
session was planned to start at 4.30 but the
actual time is 3.30. The time given by different
sources are different.
We waited and waited and finally juzz b4 we
became giraffes, Lee-Hom arrived at around 4.00pm.
Fans screamed like mad and everyone tried to
squeeze to the front. Poor me, who is small in
size. I'm not tall enough to take a good look
at Lee-Hom and was nearly squeezed into packed
sardine. Only when I jumped I caught a few
glimpses of Lee-Hom.
At first Lee-Hom greet the fans. Then he sat
down and started to sign CDs and cassettes for
us. Again, I was pushed and squeezed. The
atmosphere was so stuffy that I thanked God
I didn't faint due to lack of oxygen! It was
as if a dream when it was my turn to stand in
front of Lee-Hom. I can't believe that I was
only a few inches from him! I was too excited
until I was a bit blur. I've totally forgotten
what I wanted to tell him. I juzz remembered
to thank him for his autograph when he thanked
me for supporting him. His voice was deep
and he wore sun-glasses from the beginning to
the end. I could tell that he was very tired.
It was like a dream! When I stepped down the
temporary stage, at once I regretted for not
saying something else to him and not shaking
his hands. I was really rueful.
At 4.30 the MC annouced that Lee-Hom is going
to leave for Ipoh. My first reaction was "Why
so fast?" Yeah, it happened too fast. Lee-Hom
came and left in half an hour. I didn't even
had a good look of him. Neither did he sing a
song. He had been wearing sun-glasses all the
while that I didn't have the chance to look into
his bright eyes.
Lee-Hom left at last, though he knew everyone
was not willing to let him go. I felt as if
something had dropped from my heart and my
mind. I felt that I have lost something. But
when I looked at the songbook with Lee-Hom's
newly signed autograph I felt a warm stream
flowing through my heart.
"It's all worth it, the sweat, the time and
the tired legs," smiling contentedly, I told
myself.
