English 101 Proposal (the first revision)

Glenn Simshow

Introduction

In my current history class in Cal State San Bernardino, my professor Dr. McCoy wanted us to do a research to find out what was the chief cause of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.  The blacks and the whites had been segregated for over than a century.  But why it was this very year 1965 that the desegregation was made by the blacks.  I examined my notes, which I took from Dr. Hanson two years ago:  Dr. Hanson said the increasing numbers of the Americans own the automobile reduced the discrimination among the genders, races, and ages.  According to Dr. Hanson, the using of the cars stimulated the desires of economic equality for the blacks.  But I hold a controversial view of Dr. Hanson.  The desire of economic equality was not coming from having the cars, but from watching too much TV.  So, I debate over the cause of the civil rights movement was by the TVs instead.

The Research Question

What had the TV taught the black youth in the 1950s?

My search for this topic will be focus on the advertising of the 1950s: was it a preaching of the racial equality? Was it a using psychology to persuade the buyers?  Was it creation of the propaganda?  Based on these there questions, how the TV had brain washed the children of the 1950s.  And how it related to the Bus Boycott in 1955, and to the filling out the jails in Kennedy’s administration, and the March on Washington in 1963.  Why was TV so important?

The Research Methods

Since the topic is varied from my previous proposal, I will redo the research. I will spend several days hooking on the computers and staying in the library.  Based on my previous researching experience, I hope I will obtain the required information very soon.
