 CHAIRMAN'S LETTER

My thanks to all of the other 8 members of the Executive Committee who have volunteered to work together in 2004. I much appreciate their readiness to serve the community and I’m very keen to see that each committee member contributes to one of our different areas of activity.

At its first meeting, members of the new committee recognised the tremendous contribution made by Jim Josephson over the last 12 months in investigating issues concerning the recycled water system and they endorsed the idea of showing our great appreciation for all his work.

Thanks to Steve Foster for volunteering to continue the work he commenced last year on this Newsletter, which now enters its fourth year of publication.

John O’Brien and Mick Watts have commenced their work on beautification of the estate, the first installment being the fence near the dam, which looks good. Funds have been allocated so that further important improvements can be made on the grounds of the estate.

Major problems facing the committee this year are, first, the liability and insurance issues arising from the unfenced dams  and, second, the issue of the failure of the estate developer, Watle Pty Ltd, properly to complete the installation of the recycled water system as designed. No-one goes looking for problems such as these, but, since they have now arisen, they must be dealt with and seen through to a resolution.

The Executive Committee is there to made decisions in the interests of the whole estate. During 2004, we will all work to do just that.

NEPEAN PARK WORKING BEE

No impending working bees planned for this issue, however, the creation of a beautification sub-committee within the Executive may result in a few working bees this year.

SEWAGE SYSTEM

Thanks to everybody for showing restraint in their use of the recycled water. Despite remaining very low throughout the summer months water remained available. However, the forecast is not promising and voluntary water restrictions should still be applied.

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ASKED BY RESIDENTS

The significant ones are listed below.

Executive Committee

A new Executive Committee was formed at the AGM held 9 Mar 2004

Birds of our Roads.

This newsletter we are going to look at the Thornbill.

The Thornbill

As Yarramundi borders the forest and grasslands and support many blossoming trees and shrubs there are many varieties of Thornbill that may range in the area. They could be the Yellow-Rumped (or Yellow Tailed), Buff-Rumped (or Buff tailed), Little, Striated, or Brown  Thornbill. Nests are domed to pear shaped and usually made of fine grass, bark, fine materials and for some varieties even spider web! The birds often range in pairs or small parties and are very active searchers for insects amongst the foliage of forests and gardens. The yellow and buff tailed varieties can also be found feeding on the ground. (Picture courtesy Cayley's What Bird is That.)
