                             For Parents
My name is Yong Baik and I have been teaching mathematics for over 20 years. When teaching mathematics, it is quite easy to determine which students are experiencing problems.  Student difficulty occurs when there is  a lack of mathematical fluency. In fact, fluency is the most critical factor in mathematics achievement.
Achieving fluency requires training. Usually, students understand math facts but are not fluent. Fluency comes from repeating (practice).  Understanding is not enough, repetition and practice is required. The earlier a student develops fluency, the sooner that student will achieve in mathematics and enjoy mathematics.
Training mathematical fluency is more efficient at early ages.  In fact, it is similar to getting training in language fluently -- the earlier, the better.
Most students who experience problems learning mathematics often believe that they were not born with a talent for mathematics. They don't believe that they can learn mathematics.  This is not true.  Fluency can be developed in any student:  research bares that out.  Researchers' websites are included here and I invite you to click on any of them for further information.
If you feel your child is behind in mathematics, he or she may need fluency training. You can find out more about the training I provide on my website  www.oocities.org/ybaik1231.  I have included practice materials that you can use, a computer CD, and provide more information on the services I provide.
