Mahjong Contest General Guidelines

 

·        Time – 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

·        1:30-3:30 (1st round). 3:30-4:00 Break time, to allow posting of scores on Leaderboard. 4:00-6:30 p.m. (2nd round)

·        Random draw of player for table seating as contestants arrive at New World Restaurant. “East” seat is responsible for the Score Sheet and obtain signature of all table players at end of round before handing it to Score Master May Lau

·        There will be 2-3 spare players to fill in, in case there are players who cannot come. MJ contest will proceed with 4 players at each table.

·        Two 四圈 rounds

·        Players play all rounds (so every player will play to the end)

·        No repeat for “Chong” (Win or Draw), i.e. 16 games for 四圈 to allow better control of schedule

·        Not playing to time limit to avoid foul play, i.e. player can use slow play tactic to protect their win if a time limit is set

·        Same rules between 1st四圈 and 2nd四圈

·        Based on registration, there’ll be no Advanced and Beginner’s division. After the 1st四圈 of play, 1st and 2nd of each table will be grouped (random draw again) to play in the Championship round for bigger trophies and bigger prize money. 3rd and 4th place of each table will be grouped (random draw again) in the Consolation round for smaller trophies and smaller prize money. Chips are not carried over to the second 四圈 play for final scoring.

·        Small trophy for each table winner in the first 4-round. 13 small trophies. And another 13 small trophies for the 2nd 4-round.

·        3 larger trophies and 3 cash awards ($300, $200, $100) for Championship Division based on Round 2 total chips. (for tie-break, use “blind-fold” guess 3 tiles)

·        3 smaller trophies and 3 smaller cash awards ($90, $60, $30) for Consolation Division based on Round 2 total chips. (for tie-break, use “blind-fold” guess 3 tiles)

·        Contestants play for chips. YCCCA to sponsor cash prize and trophies

·        Participation Fee: Members $25

·        No standing around contest tables
