Put the hot feeding cap over the mold
Pouring molten lead into the mold.

The feeding cap is held in place just by it's own weight. This is another reason for choosing brass as the material of the mold.  Brass is heavy .
Pouring water into the bowl to cool it off .

The secret here is to stop pouring shortly before the water touches the feeding cap.   In this way, the lead inside the mold will solidify while those inside the feeding cap is still in the molten state. This arrangement will prevent dents from appearing on the cast as the molten lead inside the feeding cap will fill out any voids created by shrinkage in the solidification process .
After the lead inside the feeding cap has solidified, pour in more water to cool it down completely.
Pull the cast out of the mold. Very little force will be needed if the mold is made and the cooling is done properly,
