Balancing Your Pond Continued
Creatures In The Watergarden
We learned that plants aide in the algae problem that results in too much sunlight in your pond.  Creatures added to your pond will be equally beneficial.
Snails & Tadpoles
Trapdoor snails and bullfrog tadpoles will act as scavengers that help to clean the bottom of your pond.  When tadpoles become  frogs, they help control the insect population.  Some of the tadpoles that may appear in your pond, will grow into common garden toads.  A benefit to the  landscape surrounding your pond.
Fish
Fish are the glittering prizes and the star performers in the underwater world.  However, overcrowding can threaten their lives.  As a rule, the maximum stocking rate is 1 inch of fish for every 3 to 5 gallons of water.  When introducing fish into the pond, be sure and float them for at least 15 minutes to allow the temperature in the bag to adjust to the temperature of your pond.
Once established, your pond requires little care to keep the plants and fish flourishing.  More song birds will come to your garden, and you'll no longer have to fill the cat's water dish :)
