Thai monasteries abroad
Presently Thai monks have become
involved in spreading the word of the
Buddha to many countries throughout
the world.
In 1957 the Thai government and
an assembly of Buddhist monks cooperated to establish the "Wat Thai Buddha
Gaya" in Bodh Gaya in the Bihar state
of India so that Buddhism could be reestablished in India. After that, other
Thai monasteries were built one after
another in various parts of the world. In
Europe such monasteries can be found
in London and in the Netherlands. Thai
monasteries in the United States are located in Los Angeles, San Francisco,
Chicago, Honolulu, and in Texas. The
Thai government has helped to construct
others both in Singapore and in Malaysia.
Apart from helping to spread the
teachings of the Buddha, the Thai monasteries abroad also act as centers for
Thai cultural activities for the local community.

Along the gallery of the world-famous Marble Temple in
Bangkok are
Buddha images in various postures
representing classical styles of Thailand,
India and Japan.
