Inevitably, such friends in high places meant the New York trio immediately became more talked about than listened to, equipped with several feet of press cuttings. But just one single, last spring's eponymous E.P. of rickety, bass free punk rock, inevitably, singer Karen O also became a fashion magazine fixture thanks to her curious dress sense- think siouxsie Sioux dragged both forwards and backwards through a headge and bullish, take no prisoners onstage demeanour. " I consider myself to be pretty much exempt from fashion" counters Karen O, haughtily. "Although part of fashion is being able to pull things off and i can do that." This months intense, PJ Harvey goes disco new single, Machine, lives up to expectations while their debut album is due early 2003. And provisionally titled Fever to Tell. It is described by the guitarist Nick Zinner as "a new breed of songs, longer, with a disco feel but still aggressive". Karen O insists it will replicate the sweat of their live sets, which regularly see her cool off dousing herself with beer. "Its bump and grind worked up into a frenzy". She says "followed by a roller-coaster of peaks and anticipation".
