Finger On The Trigger/Notes To Prisoners [split]. The "Don't Try Me" Issue. 64 Pages. Quarter Size. $_.00. Adee & Sarah-Pensacola, Fl. |
I'm not sure where to even start with this issue. Let me just say that by the time I was done reading it, I had goose-bumps and felt inspired to gather all the amazing women I know and get to work! This issue is themed on the many ways both of these girls have been 'tried'. Notes To Prisoners [Sarah]...rape, trying to understand the imbalance of power between the sexes, her dad being arrested, institutions, stealing, sexual harrasment, crimethinc, her brother trying to stab her, and much more. Sarah don't take no shit. Finger On The Trigger [Adee]...wanting yellow cake on her 7th b day and getting chocolate, racism from her peers, hopping trains and getting treated differently by her (male) travel partners because she is female, working with children who think that Adee acts 'white', feeling as if other black people have animosity towards her because of the way she acts and because she hang out with mostly white people, along with excerpts from the book "Remembering Jim Crow", an awesome soundtrack, and information about the Southern Girls Converntion. Adee tells it how it is. Comes in a red stenciled envelope. bam! |
Femmafesto. 4 Pages. 1 oz. 25 Cents. |
This is more like a LARGE pamphlet rather then a zine. I think the intro sums it up pretty well: "We, radical women in your activist communities, your friends, your lovers, former lovers, relatives, housemates, and sisters in the struggle hereby issue this list of our demands. We demand change from the men in our lives. We insist that you take a more active role in the fight against the patriarchy and sexism under which we suffer day in a day out. We are no longer asking, pleading, or nagging for change. There will be no compromise, brothers. We won't wait wait for you to acknowledge or feel comfortable with your role in our oppression before we make our demands. You must step out of your comfort zone, realize that you are patriarchal and sexist, that you have and benefit from male privilege within this sick system which oppresses, demeans, exploits, represses, invalidates, abuses, rapes, murders, and hates women." Inspiring, Challenging, Empowering, Amazing. A 'Femmafesto'...along with the "Are you a man-archist" quiz! This is written for males involved in the radical activist community, a way to challenge and become aware of male privlidge. |
