Our e-mailboxes are bursting with emails and chain letters from the many good-willed people who are single-handedly trying to help the political and public-relations situation in Yehuda, Shomron, and Azza.
Perhaps they feel that they are doing their part by sending out these messages. They aren’t. They are merely annoying the recipients and misusing the benefits of e-mail. Those chain letters are inevitably deleted.
Those partisan causes lack the single crucial element that is the sine qua non for success in any large-scale venture. Although these small groups are to be commended for their fine intentions, their pathetic activities are in vain, and they inevitably fail. After all, we know how to use our Delete keys judiciously when yet another e-mail comes our way.
What a shame. These potential activists feel a need to help. They will continue to waste their time until somebody activates them in a positive, fulfilling, and worthwhile manner which can lead to results - or until they are burned out because of their ineffectiveness.
They are not burned out yet. They are still begging the leaders to channel their activities. A unified, coordinated communications system can spearhead a massive effort that will result in serious, concerted action.
Real change, with serious, concerted action, will occur only with a massive, coordinated, and unified effort. It must be run by like-minded and involved activists throughout the world. They must have the tool that will unite and coordinate the potentially effective and receptive audience.
Can't we get together and begin a real grass-roots effort to make a real change and to activate the masses? Of course we can!
Recently, some well-minded activists attempted to initiate a weekly walk through a part of town inhabited largely by Arabs. Within weeks, the group dwindled from a few organizers and friends to oblivion. Today, the activists have nothing to show for their effort.
Did they accomplish anything? No.
Another group wanted to assist nearby Yesha residents with basic protective necessities. The initial weak publicity blitz was rapidly forgotten. An e-mail to the address on their publicity was never answered.
What a shame. With proper communication, that same energy could have been channeled into positive and effective action.
Today, no communication medium is more effective than e-mail. Not newspaper, not radio, not TV, and not a website. When we talk about judiciously implemented professional e-mail (as opposed to partisan efforts by those who mean well) those who mean well), we’re talking real Power.
Our enemies know this. They are now waging a war of words against us – and they are winning. Their words stand behind their guns, and our lame, pathetic responses are ignored.
Yesha activists are demanding a similar communications forum. That forum requires a tremendous amount of professional time and effort - but it will guarantee results.
A communications forum for Yesha has already been created. It is waiting for activists to join. That forum will demand a tremendous amount of time. It must be led by a professional moderator who will devote himself, his knowledge, and his experience to this effort.
However, it will will guarantee greater results than any other factor.
Then forget it.
History has proved that there is no more room for yet another meaningless grass-roots forum. An organization that suggests such an effort is lazy and unwilling to take a clear and active stand. Another grass-roots forum will sacrifice still other potential activists to floundering efforts as in the past. I, for one, would not join or be involved in such a group – and neither should you!
We need to start immediate action on the inclusive Yesha Forum with a nucleus of no fewer than 10,000 subscribers. Now.
Anybody who lives in Yesha should join the group. They are all activists. Concerned people living within the Green Line in Israel as well as activists in the Diaspora should be urged to join. All affiliated Jews from around the world should join.
This is a priority issue, and the funding for running the group can come immediately from our leaders.
Yet, because of its urgency, the Yesha Forum will be absorbed into the Jewish Groups series of forums until the 10,000th confirmed member has been attracted.
During this brief time, the Yesha leaders must locate and hire the most qualified professional moderator and facilitator for this group.
These 10,000 confirmed e-mail addresses will then be turned over to the selected moderator and facilitator, and the group will begin to function.
Yes, they must be activists and leaders. That's why the number is only 10,000!
If the Yesha leaders really do care enough to take an active stand, then let them make this group their top priority, as it should be. Let them take the necessary urgent steps to attract the right moderator for the Yesha Forum, and to gather 10,000 or more valid e-mail addresses of activists.
That's 10,000 solid addresses of Yesha leaders, activists, and residents. Not one less. No, 9,999 confirmed addresses is not good enough.
I’m waiting.
