Surf trip in Puerto Escondido
Playa Zicatela, this where most of the action goes on...The wave is so fast, taht most of the time you have to re-learn to surf. This is not a place to learn, expect at la Punta (a break compleatlyt at the left-end of the beach: fun left, rocky-sand bottom), the wave is fast, the lip is big, the battom is send but it's shallow and when you get hamered it hurts big time. Even on small days you ca have a surprised surfing 1-2 foot waves and sudenly a solid 3-4 foot waves,  most of the time close out and breaking farther can surprise you.... The wave is very triky, the barrels are beautifull but get out fast, before the close out...A lot of currents, even on small days, kids and people with no boards should be very carefull.
Franck (Francis Metivier fom Trois rivieres Quebec), my classic surf trip partner  having some great time in the Mexican Pipline. This day we had some serious whipe out as a reminder to the respect of the spot...
The wave
The playa Zicatels picks up almost any swell and boost it, due to the huge underwater shelf just off shore. In fact waves approach from deep ocean and unload (breaks) in a very shallow water onto the bottom sand. There is no right or left rule, unlike the so called real pipline

Best condition for some great swell: May through october

Broken boards: Don't worry, that happens often, Ask for Miguel he will take care of your bord even if you think that threre is no hope...You can find him in front of the cafe Aroma Divino, most of the time in the morning (Red VW beetle). If you can not find him, find Ernesto at the entrance of the town, but use his services jst for minor dings...
