Grand Knight’s

Message

by Kevin Boudreaux, Grand Knight

We continue our journey in knighthood . . .

I would like to thank those of you attending the Respect Life presentation featuring KofC sponsored author and “Pharmacist for Life”, Lloyd Duplantis on November 9, 2000.  It was very informative.  This Respect Life Presentation was for everyone.  A special thanks to our KC Respect Life couple, Bill and Marie Burns!

You still have time to fulfill the requirements of obtaining Plenary Indulgence in this Jubilee Year.  In the special sense in which it is used here, an indulgence is a remission of the temporal punishment due to sin of which the guilt has been forgiven.  The requirements are as follows:

1.     Catholics must individually confess their sins (yes, go to confession!) with a repentant heart at any church within eight days before (or after) entering the designated Church doors (for example, St. Joseph’s).  Enter the Diocesan or Shrine designated doors and reflect on your spiritual life.

2.     Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles' Creed for the intentions of Pope John Paul II while in the designated church.

3.     Participate in Mass, if possible, but especially Holy Communion at any Church.

4.     Perform, within a reasonable time, a spiritual or charitable work of mercy which may include one of the following: a liturgical celebration, Eucharistic Adoration, Stations of the Cross, Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, read Scripture, visit the sick, imprisoned or elderly. These prayers or works must be performed to gain a Plenary Indulgence for you.

Thereafter one Plenary Indulgence is available for the release of any one soul in Purgatory day after day.

In other matters, please note that the Council Basketball Free throw date has been moved to January as noted in this newsletter.

Brother Jacques has comments on those of you continuing your journey in Knighthood by participating in the various degree exemplifications.  I am proud to be associated with all of you.  I was particularly proud to be with so many of you at the Fourth Degree Exemplification in Orlando recently.  You are truly, “Sir Knights!”.

Finally, special thanks to our Ladies Auxiliary for their continuing support, especially in our successful Keep Christ in Christmas Drive.  The ladies were also instrumental in the overwhelmingly successful covered dish / pot luck dinner on November 30 with over 60 people in attendance.  Please encourage all of your wives to join in the fun and efforts of this great support organization.

Merry Christmas and, as always, thank you for being a Knight of Columbus in Council #10850!  Vivat Jesus!

Fraternally,    Kevin

A Word from the

Deputy Grand Knight

by Jacques Aubertin, Deputy Grand Knight and Membership Director

Our next First Degree Exemplification will be held on Thursday, December 14, in the Mandarin/Loretto Room.  So far we have approximately 20 candidates committed to attend.  We need more!  I am asking everyone to make that special effort and recruit new members now.  Our Council is growing rapidly, but we need as many new members as possible to make this growth bigger.  It is our duty, as Knights, to recruit our fellow catholic men, to introduce them to our Order, to share with them the joy of being a Knight of Columbus!  Go ahead and contact your relatives, your friends, your neighbors, and your coworkers.  They deserve the opportunity of sharing our faith.  Remember, JUST ASK.  (I have plenty of applications, should you need one!).

Speaking of growth, congratulations to our two new Third Degree members:  Romeo ARUMBUYATAN and Peyton FRYE.  These members participated in the Third Degree exemplification (Fraternity) on November 18, 2000 in Middleburg. I also present my congratulations to 16 of our brothers who made that special commitment and became Knights of Columbus in the Fourth Degree exemplification (Patriotism) on Saturday November 25, in Orlando.  Join me in special recognition to the Sir Knights: James BURTON, Steve CONNELLY, Rod CRUZ, Daniel DEVANY, Roger DEXTER, Michael GREENE, Jim HANSEN, John HASHTAK, Bill HEATON, Steve KERLIN, Harry KIMBALL, Scotty MOSCONI,  Steven SHEFFER, James STOREY, Robby TARCZINSKI and Bruce TOTH.  They will join as Charter Members of the new Fourth Degree Assembly being soon created at St. Joseph under the name "Our Lady of Lourdes Assembly".  More on that at a later date.

I kept the most important part for last. I want to re-emphasize the first concept on which our Order was founded: Charity.  Remember your first Degree and the pledge you took.  At this time of the year, the sweet name of Charity is more important than ever.  When you buy those presents for your family, your friends, have you ever thought of the needs of others?  This year, this ever present need is touching our Council again.  The Mandarin Food Bank has asked us to adopt a family for the Holy Days -- nine children, from 17 to one years in age, plus another one on the way (due early May), and their Mom and Dad.  They have little to nothing!  When we ponder whether we want to buy our kids a scooter or the latest video game, they have to decide if they want to buy food or motor oil.  When we look at all those ads for clothes, furniture or electronics, they wonder how to stretch the only pair of pants that their 7 year old has, or who is going to wear the dark shoes to church, next weekend!  As Knights, it’s our duty to help them.  I have a long list of what they need, and can share it with you, if you request it.  But I believe it would be more efficient to collect money and gift certificates.  We will use the money to buy everything on the list, and give them any gift certificate, any toy, any piece of clothing that you may want to donate.  We ask that each Knight mail us a check for $20.00 (or more) in order to accomplish our lofty goal.  Remember, everything starts with Charity.  Please call me at 268-8742 or Kevin at 880-8977 for information on your donation.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW.  Knights, stand and be counted!

Fraternally yours, Jacques
