Message

As we continue our journey in knighthood . . .
. . . it is very satisfying to
attend a first degree ceremonial because we see other Catholic men begin to
glimpse what knighthood in our order means.
It is also particularly gratifying to hear that your council’s First
Degree Team has been named to represent the Diocese of St. Augustine at the KC
state ceremonials competition in Kissimmee in late March. These men have worked hard to mold a group
of Knights into an effective ceremonial team.
Congratulations to them all!
If you have not been to a
first or second degree ceremonial lately, then please see the schedule in this
newsletter and make plans now to attend.
This success puts greater
emphasis on the formation of our second degree ceremonial team. It is time to get this moving beyond the few
months of discussions and to put together the team. These ceremonials and the men behind them are important because
they relay to new knights the fundamentals of our order’s traditions and
foundations. Several of you have
already shown interest in this rewarding part of knighthood. I’m sure there are others of you that would
also like to participate. Please let me
know as soon as possible that you would like to support or directly participate
in the second degree team being formed right now. We will have our first meeting and rehearsal in March (or
sooner!). We plan to be certified
before June and conduct our first ever second degree exemplification on
Thursday, June 7, 2001.
On another note, we have
recently revamped the “call tree” or “phone tree”. That’s the administrative group within our organization that
calls to remind members of meetings and other important council or church
events. When a fellow knight to remind
you of a meeting or event calls you, please work the meeting or event into your
calendar. It helps you, your council
and your church!

Deputy
Grand Knight

Aubertin, Deputy Grand Knight and Membership Director 
We had two First Degree Exemplifications since our last newsletter, on January 18 and the other on February 2. We need the practice since our First Degree Team will represent the Diocese of St. Augustine during a statewide competition, which will take place during the last part of March in Kissimmee. We will have another First Degree at St. Joseph, on March 1. Mark your calendar and join us to enjoy the fine job done by the Exemplification Team and welcome new members into the Order.
Our membership now stands at 153! This quite an accomplishment, bur we need more members. I challenged all of you to bring at least one new member into our Council. So far, only a few have responded. Congratulations to Kevin Boudreaux, Paul Belkot, Dino Palazesi, Wayne Jimerson, Romeo Arimbuyutan and Dan Witkovich who have each recruited at least one new member. They make the Honor Roll this month. This Honor Roll will be featured every month to recognize all recruiters (transfers do not count, but re-applications do). I WANT YOU TO JOIN THEM.
It is hard to be a Knight, to protect and defend our Holy Religion, to support the Right to Life movement, to get involved. It is easier not to be a Knight and not carry another cross. We have chosen the right way to behave at the beginning of this third millennium. We need to share our faith, our beliefs, and our hopes. Talk to your relatives, co-workers, neighbors, and invite them to join the Knights of Columbus. With your help, our Council will grow stronger and we will be able to accomplish more. Remember, JUST ASK.
