Grand Knight’s

Message

by Kevin Boudreaux, Grand Knight

As we continue our journey in knighthood . . .

during this Lenten season, we must reflect on our offerings to our Lord.  We set important examples as Knights in our faith community by taking part in activities especially during this season such as the Stations of the Cross and such.  But most important of all is to be examples to our families so that all close to us will know that we are penitent and working to be closer to our Lord.  Please receive the sacrament of reconciliation regularly and lead by example.

So many of you are participating more and enjoying our council’s activities.  New members breathe renewal into our council by your vitality and interest that help all of us to renew our pledges of fealty to our Blessed Mother and devotion to her Son.  Congratulations to all of the new 1st degree Knights and special congratulations to the new 2nd and 3rd degree Knights as they continue their journeys.  You are called to be here.  Remember the saying, God does not necessarily call the capable but makes capable those called.

As always, your dedicated time, talent and treasure are appreciated.  But most importantly, please continue to pray for our council and our members that we will continue to do what is right and what is needed in defense of our faith and the innocent of this world.

Pray the Rosary.  Thank you for being a Knight of Columbus in Council #10850!  Vivat Jesus!

Fraternally,    Kevin

+ Lift High the Cross! +

A Word from the

Deputy Grand Knight

by Jacques Aubertin, Deputy Grand Knight and Membership Director

I want to congratulate Jason HAMILTON, the newest member of our Council who took his first degree in the Mandarin / Loretto Room at St. Joseph on Thursday, March 1st.  His father, John HAMILTON participated in the exemplification, and transferred his membership to our Council.

Our next First Degree will be held on Thursday April 4th at St. Joseph’s.  I would like for all of you to be true Knights and bring as many new members as you can.  We need a strong turn out!  We need all of you to be committed to our council and its bright future.  Please help a fellow Catholic take that important step in their faith and become part of our Order.  Remember, JUST ASK!

A Third Degree Exemplification will be held in Palm Coast on Sunday March 25.  If you have not taken this important step, please consider attending.  We will contact all eligible candidates in the next couple of weeks.

Fraternally yours, Jacques

News and Notes from

Around the Council

Ø    Knighthood is more than just Faith, Family and Fraternity, it is also participation.

·       Thanks to all Brother Knights attending our meetings.  Please encourage other Brothers to attend.

·       Virtually every ministry at St. Joseph’s is represented in our Council.  Take the message of the brotherhood of the Knights and their devotion to Mary and get active in other ministries of the Church.  Specifically, if you are a member of the Knights of Columbus and are a parishioner at St. Joseph’s, you should also be a member of the St. Joseph’s Men’s Club.  These two organizations compliment each other.

·       Marian Hour of Prayer.  A Marian Hour of Prayer was held on Saturday, January 27, 2001 in Our Lady’s Chapel (middle Church).  About one dozen people attended and Father Dan Cody led us in the Rosary.  A replica, blessed by Pope John Paul II, of the mosaic of Our Lady of Guadalupe commissioned by the Knights of Columbus was on display.  The original mosaic, about five feet tall, was donated to Pope John Paul II and is on display on the Order’s Museum in New Haven, CT.  Several replicas of this Icon are traveling around the country to each council of the Knights of Columbus for display during their Marian Hour of Prayer.  Following the prayer hour, the Icon was placed on display in the new Church during all masses that weekend.

Ø    Annual Handicapped Citizen Fund Drive.  Our Council’s Annual Handicapped Citizen Fund Drive will begin soon.  Please call Brother Barry Blackledge, Event Chairman, to volunteer.

Ø    Altar Server of the Year.  Brother Jacques Aubertin reports that our Council’s Altar Servers of the Year recipients are:  Senior:  Joseph Deaux and Junior:  Corey Troxell.  Their nomination packages for State recognition will be forwarded to State KOC.

Ø    KOC Charities Ball.  The “Sharin’ o’ the Green” KOC Charities Ball (Dinner and Dance) at Radisson on Saturday, March 3, 2001 from 8-11:30.

Ø    Renovation of the Convent Building:  This work is nearing completion.  If you would like to help on Saturdays and/or evenings with painting, cleaning, or generally helping out for the inside work.  The last step is to replace the carpeting.  Once the completed the Knights will be allowed to use one room for the fourth degree meetings. Please call Barry Blackledge, 262-3450, or Harry Kimball, 268-3947, or Robbie Tarczynski, 262-2463.

Ø    Respect Life:  Our KC Council Respect Life Couple, Bill and Marie Burns, 262-7524, are very active in the Respect Life movement.  Bill and Marie work closely with the St. Joseph Catholic Church Respect Life Couple:  Russ and Carron Tooke, 268-3349.  Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.”  Jeremiah 1:5

Ø    Rosary-for-Life & Adoration, Our Lady's Chapel, "Middle" Church, every Monday, 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm.

Ø    The Knight of the Month for January was Brother Romeo Arimbuyutan for his continuing hard work in the forefront and behind the scenes of the council.  The February award will be announced at the March meeting.

Ø    The Family of the Month for November went to the Jerry and Trish Bendon family as a wonderful Catholic family and for giving up family time in support to our Council and their Catholic Faith.  The February award will be announced at the March meeting.

Get involved in the variety of activities going on in the council:  This is your council and these are your activities!
