Dreaming about death suggests that you are involved in a conflict within yourself. Even children dream about death, and adults often wake up and remember scenes of killings, bodies, or tombs. In some periods of a person's life, when they are experiencing changes which affect their physical or mental well-being, these dreams can become particularly important : death can represent liberation from feelings, responsibilities and situations which can have a negative effect on the person's life.

So death in a dream does not foretell the death of a real person, but simply the death of a part of the dreamer : a departure or separation from something that is troubling them, and which they are still unable to escape from in their conscious lives because they have not yet come to terms with it.

It is hard to forget a dream involving death : we tent to wake up feeling oppressed and perhaps frightened. It is only when we start to think through the dream and analyze it that we begin the process of catharsis, of freeing ourselves from the inner conflicts we have not yet managed to resolve. Some of these symbols are not only personal to us, but part of the collective unconscious, the system of myth and ritual which we all share in. In Jung's words, they are "symbols of transformation".
