Journal 2:
The Human Condition
The key idea to remember in this

section is the human condition: what it

means and how it affects our lives.  The

human condition is the state that all

humans find themselves in for the simple

reason of being human.  Also, it can be

described as the experiences in which all

humans share. This condition is a part of

each and every one of us.  All humans

seek happiness, no matter who we are,

our primary goal is to be happy and find

pleasure in life.  Also, the world in itself is

vain and the diversions in our lives distract

us.  For we have no power to abolish

death or other problems of the kind which

plague the world, unfortunately we are not

completely in control.  We, as humans are

powerless, only God is supreme.  In

addition, no of us will be able to avoid the

pains of suffering in our lives.  It doesn't

matter how we live our lives, at some

point or another, we will suffer.  We can

conclude from all of this that humans do

not have an ideal exsistence, yet we desire

truth; however, we cannot avoid the state

of Original Sin, which we are all born

into.
Top 3 Key Ideas:
1.  The problem of evil is that mystery which none of us can fully explain.  Evil is a privation of goodness, meaning it is a loss or lack of goodness.  There are both moral and physical evils.  Moral evils could be described as sin and is the result of human choices.  These sins are made possible by our own choices.  God's ultimate gift to us is the power of free will.  There is also Physical evil, which is any malody that prevents one of God's creations from enjoying life to the fullest.  Such as discease or blindness.
2.  The
three effects of Original Sin are Concupiscence, wounded intellect, and death.  The first is the natural inclination of all humans to sin.  Wounded Intellect is the damage of everyone's way of thinking and is caused by Original Sin.  It is more difficult for us as humans to seek the truth.  Lastly, death is the most horrible reality of Original Sin.  All of us, as humans, are mortal and will die.  However, before Original Sin, death didn't always exsist.
3.  Eschatology is the term in Christian theology refering to the four last tings: death, judgement, heaven, and hell.  Because of Original Sin all of us will die and regardless of our particular religious beliefs, we'll be judged by God.  After we are judged we will go to heaven or to hell.  Heaven is the fulfillment of all our deepest desires and we will come face to face with God.  Our whole lives are leading up to the moment when we will finally see God.  Hell, on the other hand, is a complete lack of God.  God does not send us to hell, rather we chose through our on actions to go there.  But the theory of Universalism is that one day all those in hell will be freed from the torment and hell will transform into a sort of purgatory where heaven will be able to be acheived one day.
-An image that reminds me of the Human Condition are these theatrical faces.  One is happy, one is sad.  This is like our own lives.  There will be happiness in the world, but at the same time we cannot avoid suffering.  The Human Condition inevitably causes both feelings in all humans, which is the unavoidable product of being human.

-A question which I will take with me to ponder from this section is "why are there physical evils in the world?"  How is it because of our free will malodies plague our own bodies and those of our loved ones?  It is nobodies fault on earth that many of these physical evils have occured.
-After studying the human condition and the problem of evil I have learned that there are many things that we as humans simply do not know, or cannot comprehend.  But, I will try my best to better understand God and realize I don't have all the answers.  In my strive to be a better person I will try to avoid moral evils and realize God is not the one I should place the blame on for evils in the earth.
