人們常以為獨立電影是一種電影類型，其實獨立只是一個製作模式，獨立即是D.I.Y.，不受老闆卡士市場限制，自己鐘意拍乜就拍乜，製作具誠意和個人風格又有睇頭的作品。就像今次影意志與百 老匯電影中心(bc)攜手搞作的「bc獨立電影月」，便選映了多部新鮮出爐的香港獨立作，包括吳彥祖徘迴於李志超怪雞懸疑的《妖夜迴廊》；三大影帝黃秋生曾志偉廖啟智縱橫死亡世界的《福伯》；贏盡口碑、榮獲香港國際電影節數碼錄像金獎和澳洲電影節最佳劇本獎的《鐘意冇罪》；張偉雄再次深入探討女性 心理的感性之作《太陽無知》；游靜大玩女同志SM cyber sex 的《好郁》；平實中不失尖銳、展示香港教育真實面貌的紀錄片《中學》和刻劃都市眾生相的「本地薑短打」。這些作品主題獨特，風格創新，亦都充份體現獨立精神，是香港電影的另類清泉。
People often think of independent film as a genre, but it really a
mode of production: it is D.I.Y. filmmaking, without the constraints of
financiers, stars and market considerations, and the results are both individualistic
and exciting to watch. Like the films shown in this program, which also
represent the latest crop of Hong Kong independent films. These include
the bizarre psychological thriller Night Corridor, directed by famed
novelist Julian Lee and starring Daniel Wu; Fu Bo, starring Hong Kong
Film Award winners Eric Tsang, Anthony Wong Chau Sang and Liu Kai Chi as
agents of death; festival favourite Love is Not a Sin, winner of the
Golden DV Award at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and Best Script
at the Down Under International Film Festival in Australia; Chang Wai
Hung's moody exploration of the female psyche, And Also The Eclipse; Yau
Ching's Ho Yuk (Let's Love Hong Kong) about women's desires in futuristic
Hong Kong; Secondary Sc! hool, a ruthless expose of the Hong Kong
education system, filmed in the Direct Cinema style; and last but not
least, a program of short films showcasing the most outstanding indie
up-and-comers. Together, these films represent what is the probably the
most innovative sub-current in Hong Kong cinema.

Yuen Sum is a young artist with a tortured past who
comes back to Hong Kong to
investigate his twin brother's bizarre death. In so doing he digs deep
into his own past, including his unrequited love with his bullying
handsome ex-roomate, a shameful abusive relationship with a pedophile
priest and his accusation against his lunatic prostitute mother. Yuen
encounters his dead brother's girlfriend, and soon finds himself falling
in love with her. In the process he is unwittingly lured into a deadly
trap perpetrated by the night keeper of a mysterious colonial library,
whose dark corridors proves to be Yuen's undoing.

Julian Lee is a writer-director. After graduating
from Chinese University Hong Kong in communications 1984, he had worked
as a scriptwriter, a writer of controversial articles in newspapers and
magazines. In 1988, He left for London to
enrol in Royal College of Art in London for a
Master degree in photography. He remained in Europe for
eight years to develop his artist career, working in photography and
video and also as a correspondent for publications in Hong
Kong. He returned to Hong

Three interrelated tales linked by the theme of
death. A morgue assistant witnesses gut-wrenching autopsies and mutilated
corpses on a daily basis. But strangest of all is the behaviour of his
oddball colleagues. In another part of town, a professional killer views
his job with grave misgiving. This tormented soul begins to act in an
increasingly erratic manner much to the consternation of his triad bosses.
The third character is a cook who works in a prison. His job is to cook
for inmates on death row, and to record their dying wishes. This unholy
trio finds out in different ways that the most beautiful moments of life
are often those closest to death.

Wong Ching Po began his career working as a
production assistant in a television station. He went on to direct
numerous commercials and music videos, as well as the director on several
motion picture "making of" specials. He now owns his own
production company. His work as an independent filmmaker includes I Love
Bath Tap (1997), winner of the gold award at the 6th Independent Film and
Video Awards, Bamboo Doors, Bamboo Doors (1999), winner of a
distinguished award at the 8th Independent Film and Video Awards, and The
Dogs (2000), a selected work at the 9th Independent Film and Video
Awards.
李公樂Lee Kung Lok
曾先後為電影台及電影副導演，參予作品包括《PTU》等。現與黃精甫自組製作公司。《福伯》為其首次參與獨立電影之作品。
Lee Kung Lok is an experienced assistant director
with many film and television productions credits under his belt,
including PTU. Fo Bo is his first involvement in independent film. He is
now the co-owner of a production company along with partner Wong Ching
Po.

Moon and
Mun Mun are two teenage girls who grew up together in Coloane in Macau. One day Mun Mun thinks she has seen a ghost in Moon's room. She
places a video camera in Moon's room without her knowledge to obtain
proof, but discovers a horrifying truth: Moon is a guy! Mun Mun is at
first shocked by this discovery, but gradually she accepts it and is even
glad that her best friend is male. For she finds herself slowly falling
in love with Moon, who in turn senses Mun Mun's feelings and secretly
signals her approval it. Just as Mun Mun is ready to take this love a
step further she makes another devastating discovery: the boy that she
videotaped is Moon's twin brother, whose existence has hitherto been a

Chang
Wai-hung was born in Hong
Kong in 1963 and
has been writing on the film since 1983. He started his career as a
screenwriter in 1985 when he joined Jackie Chan's Golden Way Films
Production. He wrote and directed his first two feature films, After the
Crescent (1997) and Among the Stars (2000), with a grant from the Hong
Kong Arts Development Council. And Also the Eclipse (2003), also funded
by the HKADC, is the final part of his Luna Trilogy.

records everyday events including daily lessons, staff meetings, and

at the Hong Kong school system. "The portrayal of the two
schools has presented a microcosm of what is going on today in Hong Kong schools - buffeted by the often conflicting forces of their
colonial histories, Chinese culture and the on-going drive for

Chan is Nicole's cyber-stripper sex toy. Isolated by choice, Chan
regularly visits a female prostitute for sex, but can't connect with
anyone in her own life. Acclaimed short film-maker Yau Ching makes a bold
impression with her debut feature in this intriguing story about three
women whose lives quietly intersect. Ho Yuk (Let's Love Hong Kong) is a

Yau
Ching was born in Hong
Kong in 1966. She
received her BA in Comparative Literature and Philosophy from the
University of Hong Kong, MA in Media Studies from the New School University in New York and PhD in Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London. A graduate of the Whitney Museum Independent
Study Program in New York and an award-winning filmmaker, video artist and
writer, she is currently Assistant Professor at the School of design of
the Hong
Kong Polytechnic University. Ho Yuk (Let's Love Hong Kong) is her debut
feature.

A pair
of teenage girls cherishes the last moment together when one of them has
to leave Hong Kong. Jimmy is lost when he realizes his mother is going to
give birth to a baby whose father is not the same as his. An old man is
visited by his newly wed wife from mainland. Three different episodes
intertwine and unfold alongside Wong Nai Chung Road.
