Evolution of Democracy Threaded Discussion.

There have been many things that have contributed to the American democracy. Among these things are the 12 commandments, 12 Tables, Athenian Democracy, direct and indirect democracy, the Magna Carta, Divine Right of Kings, and the Enlightened Thinkers. They are all important, but I believe that the 10 commandments were very important and influential in shaping the American democracy. They are basic rules that can be used as an outline to make more complicated rules. They are laws.

The first and second commandments are about God being the creator of everything and him as being the only God. This is like a comparison to the Democracy or rules of the United States. It is like the laws of the U.S. are shaping the way the people live. Also, it shows that the laws and democracy of the U.S. are the only ones that the people of the U.S. should listen to. The 4th commandment says to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy which is like remembering the day of democracy and remember the laws of the U.S. and remember and follow them. The 5th commandment says to honor your father and mother. This implies in the U.S. to honor your country and they people who shaped the democracy. Commandments 6-10 are basically what the laws are shaped around in the U.S. They are about murdering and things that are against the law today. That is the basis for the laws.

The people who made the U.S. a democracy could have looked at the Ten Commandments and taken the ideas of what they are saying and shaped the U.S. and the democracy around the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments played an important role in shaping the democracy of the U.S.

Evolution to Democracy Threaded Discussion

Response to Taishi Kato

I agree with what Taishi Kato said in his response to the evolution of democracy. The Athenian Democracy played a big part in making the U.S. democracy. Democracy started thousands of years ago by the Athenians. Pericles had the ideas to start what they called a democracy. In the Athenian democracy a bunch of people would get together to make laws and things like that.

The Athenian democracy did not only directly affect the U.S. democracy of the present day, but it also affected other things. The things that the Athenian democracy had influence on were the 10 Commandments, 12 Tables, Athenian Democracy, direct and  indirect democracy, the Magna Carta, Divine Right of Kings, Enlightened Thinkers. All these things were shaped and made around the Athenian democracy and what the Athenian democracy was about. The Athenians started the democracy back in the age of Pericles. It was a direct democracy and that started the age of democracy. Once the Athenians started to use a democracy as their form of government, others followed them in later times and also used a democracy. The democracies did not stay the same from government to government. Every government had different things added or taken away from the democracy that the Athenians made. Over time democracy has evolved to things that work better than the democracy the Athenians created. Without the Athenians starting a democracy, the 10 commandments and other things would not be in the world because there would not be a democracy government to use them in.

The Athenian democracy was definitely an important part in the U.S. democracy today. If Pericles would not have had the idea to make a democracy, then the Athenians would not have had a democracy, and other governments over time would not have had a democracy and neither would the U.S.
