Renaissance

Renaissance, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance, 11-1-05

Renaissance means rebirth. Rebirth can mean the discovery of ancient classical texts and learning and their applications in the arts and sciences. It can also mean that the results of these intellectual activities created a revitalization of European culture in general. The Renaissance was a period of time after Medieval Times. It is the transition between the end of the Medieval Ages and the modern ages. It started in the 14th century in Italy and the 16th century in Northern Europe. It was a period that brought scientific revolution and artistic transformation. Along with all of the great stuff, such as science and art came the people who discovered everything, so not only was the Renaissance a time for discovery, but also a time of many important, smart, and influential people.

This website is great if you are looking for meaningful facts about the Renaissance. It has exactly what we are learning and have learned in class. It is precise and gives you true facts. It has many links to different pages about different things during the Renaissance. Because it has multiple links, the information is organized and can easily be found. There are also many great pictures to help enforce the text. This is a great site for learning.

Protestant Reformation

Protestant Reformation, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestant_reformation, 11-2-05

The Protestant Reformation was when protestors wanted reform. The Protestant Reformation was a movement which emerged in the 16th century as attempts to reform the Roman Catholic Church in Western Europe. The Reformation was started by a man named Martin Luther. He started the Protestant Reformation with his 95 thesis. He posted these 95 theses on the door of the Catholic Church in Western Europe. Martin Luther wanted to reform the Roman Catholic Church because of Papacy. This papacy was a time in which Popes, Bishops, and the Roman Catholic Church took advantage of people. They took advantage of the people by letting the people pay them money so that the people could go into heaven if they have committed sins rather than confessing their sins. Luther wanted this to change and he was later excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church in Western Europe.

This website is really good and full of interesting information. It has many links to different pages so the information is well organized which makes what you want to find easier. The quality of the information is also wonderful. They have a lot of information on the Protestant Reformation and what else was going on during the time of the Protestant Reformation. This is a really great site.

Enlightenment

Age of Enlightenment, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Enlightenment, 11-2-05

The Enlightenment was in the 18th century. It was a time of major development in Europe and has a major impact on today’s world and society. Without this time period, people today would view the world and what goes on in the world today differently. The Enlightenment is part of the age of reason. It was a historical intellectual movement. Many ideas evolved during this time, but more importantly, smart people evolved. These people who were very smart and logical thinkers were called Philosophes. These Philosophes thought logically and tried to solve problems. New forms of music and art also developed from the period of enlightenment. The Enlightenment led to the rise of capitalism and the birth of socialism.

The website where I used for the Enlightenment was very good. It had a nice setup so the information was easy to find and understand. The website has a lot of information, but unlike some sites, all of the information is important and useful. The information is good, plentiful, and easy to understand. The website has many links which also adds to the easiness to find information. The website also has pictures to help reinforce the information and also to make the website visually appealing.
