Roman Empire Webliography

The Roman Empire, http://www.pbs.org/empires/romans/empire/index.html, September 27, 2005

This website about the Roman Empire is excellent. It is a very interactive site that gives a lot of information and makes it easy to learn about what life was like during the time.

The site has a great timeline that gives a lot of information. It tells that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C. It also gives other important facts like when people are born, die, and become rulers or emperors. There is also a link where it describes marriage and family life. The head of a Roman family was the oldest living male. He could do anything he wanted with people that disobeyed him. This oldest living male is called the paterfamilias. He was the only one that could own land. The paterfamilias also decided if he wanted to keep his baby. It discusses wedding customs and it also discusses marriage and divorce laws. It also tells about the social tree and that the emperor was at the top. The site also has a game, a place where you can send an e-postcard, and a Roman family tree.

This website is one of the best for research on Roman culture. It makes it fun, easy, and it gives a lot of information to learn.

The Persian Wars Webliography

Hooker, Richard, http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~dee/GREECE/PERSIAN.HTM, 9-28-05

This website talks about Ancient Greece in the Persian Wars. It does not have any links, but it has good information.

The Persian Wars were very important for the Greeks. The Athenians said that the wars were one of their greatest moments. In 546 B.C. Persia had conquered Lydia. The Athenians decided they were going to help in the battle and they destroyed Lydia. After this all of the Greek city-states in Asia Minor joined the revolt against the Persians. Later the Athenians lost interest in the war and they bailed out and the Persians regained control of the city-states they had conquered.

Because the Athenians had interfered with the Persians, the Persians decided to launch an attack on the Athenian Army. The Athenians were ready for them and they met at Marathon where the Athenians defeated the Persians. It is a good thing the Athenians won or the Persians would have taken control and things would have and still would be a lot different. After the Athenians won the battle they thought of themselves as the best and strongest Greek city-state.

The website about the Persian Wars is nothing to complicated or intricate, but it gives great information about the Persian Wars and how it affected the Greeks.
