As the glacier melts, it because a snowfield, and when the snowfield melts, it becomes a lake.

The lakes of Glaciers are in U-shape valleys formed by erosion by glaciers. The brilliant colours of many lakes and creeks are caused glacier flour--the very fine rock powder that is formed when rocks surrounding the glacier are pulverized.  When you find a lake whose colour is very blue or green, you can be assured that you can find a glacier.
