Relocation | ||||||||
Potions, Poultices, Poisons... POISONS!!! What are Poisons doing mixed in with the Poultices? Someone could come in wanting a Mustard Plaster, and I would wind up giving him Mustard Gas! It must be that apprentice Arthur again. Spells, he can cast, but Spelling... It seems that every time I change locations this happens. And I no sooner get this sorted out, and then I have to pack it up again, to help with some Quest or another. Although, I am rarely the one doing the Quest-ing. Usually I am the one they come to with Quest-ions. Oh well, such is the life of a Wizard. I am really too old to be going on fighting Damsels and rescuing Dragons anyway. Yes you heard me right, I said fighting Damsels. Have you ever tangled with one at a bazaar? They can be fierce if you are going after the same roll of silk. And Knights are entirely too mean to Dragons. Most just want to be left alone. As much as I dislike moving, I still enjoy meeting the varied and interesting peoples that I meet. I have spoken with many of the locals... I mean Portalites, as they prefer to be called. I have noticed that they... or I should say we, since I now count myself among them, are a widely divergent people. There are those overwhelmed by the enormity of the Vulcan Orbiter, and those that are so inured to it that they forget that they are not actually on a planet, but over one. Oftentimes, there is an "US" versus "THEM" attitude with respect to newcomers. "Us" almost always refers to those who have lived in the location longer. Frequently the older inhabitants forget that not long ago, in the history of things, they were newcomers themselves. As to relocation, I see it as a double-edged blade that must be handled carefully. On one side, there is the irritation of packing and unpacking, and the pleasure of meeting new people. On the other, travel just for the freedom of it, is balanced with the loneliness of leaving before you can really put down roots, and make lasting friendships. Only the individual can decide where his priorities should lie. For myself, I think I'll make myself at home, for a while. ...Until the next quest... |
