THE WISDOM OF YOGA What is Yoga? Often it's translated as union from the literal meaning 'to yoke or connect' the mind which is often like a team of wild horses running or oxen fixed and stubornly plodding along. It is in fact giving up the illusion of seperateness. You could say it's our relationship with Mother Earth or a concrete experience of the reality that we are quite simply a part of something far greater than ourselves. It has no connection to religion nor is it a philosophy strictly speaking but rather an experience of that which the sages of all times have said, "We are all one." Though interest in the teachings often arises through practice, it isn't strictly necessary to know anything to do yogaexcept that you want to feel good about yourself. Hatha yoga is more than physical fittness, it's making the body the temple, a sacred place of being. |
1. When I do Yoga, I feel better. 2. When I feel well, life seems easier. I'm able to accept the joys and the challenges as equally good. 3. I am absolutely certan that there is a power greater than 'me' which I percieve, actually feel in my body through Hatha Yoga. 4. Through this conscious connection , life is fuller. 5. It's something beyond words and thought, a conscious loving presence. It's an individual experience finding one's teacher within, the guru, which can only be heard in silence: the noise of the mind hides it but it's always there patiently waiting our attention or demanding it . 7. Breath itself is the teacher, the way a wave is part of the ocean one not existing without the other. It's something we can't live without! 8. A yoga teacher is nothing more than a friend who practices yoga, has travelled the road before you and can therefore show the way through principles of alignment with open heart and mind to find your 'yoga'. 9. I promise you, your life will change if you just begin to watch your breath, to observe mind and body. Simple but not easy so even though it's an individual practice, a class can provide guidance and inspiration as well as community. 10.Above take the practice but not yourself seriously. Life's a game, learning to play takes a lifetime or more! 11.Yoga is accepting who we are while providing the means to change or let go of that which stands in the way of our capacity to be and experience ourselves as the individual expression of the divine. 12. Now is the time to begin. Right now... |
I've been teaching and practicing yoga for many years and for me it's always a revelation, something new to learn. I don't feel wise but I know a few things for sure. |
Take a deep breath and a moment to ask yourself, "Where am I now? Who am I really?" Observe your breath as it comes and goes following it to the source where we are all part of the fabric of being Yogamoves, breath breathing life breathing you. |
