Making your own Grip Sinkers
I've received a few mails on the method to make DIY wire grip sinkers. I've came up with a comprehensive guide on the steps to doing it and here it is. If there are any doubts, please do not hesitate to drop me a mail.
Step 1: You'll need a few types of materials, namely: Gauge 18 or 20 stainless steel wire (soft type), pliers, scotch tape, old monofilament, and some torpedo sinkers or snapper leads.
Step 2: Cut 2 lengths of wire, of around 20-24 cm each.
Step 3: Pass one of them through the eye of the sinker and fold it around the contour of the sinker.
Step 4: Do it for the other length of wire.
Step 5: Using sticky tape, secure the desired position of the wires on the sinker. The 4 wire legs should be preferentially spaced out equally.
Step 6: Cut out a length of monofilament (of around 1m of 30lb test) and make a simple overhand knot on one of the wire legs.
Step 7: Draw the knot tight.
Step 8: Do the same for all 4 wire legs and also for the leg which you first tied the overhand knot. These knots will ensure that the loops (which will be described later) will not slip down the wire legs.
Step 9: Loop the length of monofilament around each leg numerous times.
Step 10: After about 12-16 loops, tie an overhand knot on one of the legs again.
Step 11: Do the same as described in step 8.
Step 12: Using the other tag end from step 6, tie the two tag ends together using a few overhand knots.
Step 13: Trim off the excess monofilament & remove the scotch tape used in step 5. Trim the wire legs so that all 4 legs are of equal length.
Step 14: Repeat steps 1-13 again and soon, you'll have a few grip sinkers for use in strong current runs soon.
Step 14: Before using, fold the wires to the shape as shown in the picture below, so that the grip wires will grip onto sand or mud and anchor the rig.
That's all folks for the time being. Hope my guide is useful. Cheers!
