The following is a description of the first section of the
Elementary level of Xiang Gong Qigong:
Preparatory Movement
Stand with the feet shoulder width apart and place the
hands along side of the body. Relax the mind and the body for a
few moments prior to beginning the movements. Next, place the
palms in front of the chest with the palms facing each other
approximately one fist distance away from each other. The fingers
point to the front. Spread the palms out to shoulder width
distance while maintaining the same hand position. Following,
bring the palms back to the starting position in front of the
chest. Repeat this sequence of opening and closing five to ten
times.
SECTION I
Golden Dragon Wags Tail
Bring the two palms together in front of the chest to form a "prayer" palm with the fingers pointing to the front. Move the hands to the left and then to the right while keeping the hands at chest level. The fingers will point 45 degrees from the center line on both sides of the body. The arms should conduct the motion without allowing the upper body to move. The movement is generated from the shoulders. The motion should be continuous and without pauses. Be sure not to bend the wrists while conducting the movement. Repeat the movement between 36 and 54 times.
Jade Phoenix Nods Head
Bring the "prayer" palms to the center of the chest and then raise the hands to neck level with the fingers pointing up. Move the hands down in an arc to the lower abdomen along the center line of the body. The fingers point down at an angle. Upon reaching the abdomen, move the hands along the same route up to neck level. The motion is generated from the elbow joints. Pay particular attention not to bend the wrists during the movement. Repeat the movement between 36 and 54 times.
Incense Floating in the Wind
Place the palms apart in front of the chest as described in
the preparatory movement. Open and close the two palms five
times. On the fifth time, the palms draw up to neck level with
the fingers pointing up at an angle and the palms facing each
other at a downward angle. Next, slice down to the sides of the
body in an arc with palms facing down. The hands should not move
behind the body during the downward motion. Upon reaching the
sides of the body, retrace the motion back to neck level. Repeat
this downward arc motion to the sides of the body 31 times.
