Once Upon a Time...


(a fable for children)


Once upon a time there lived a flock of birds in one big forest.

The forest was a society of their own, and that world functioned just like ours.

The birds had their own families, own houses, and even their own schools.

It was usual for the little birds to attend school, where they would learn such things as flying,

finding food, escaping from wild animals and so on.


Now, two special birds attended that school.

One was a girl bird. Her name was Clear Voice.

She was a bit small for her age, and always spoke in a very high tone,

so the rest of the birds made fun of her quite often.

But as you can see from her name, Clear Voice had a special talent.

She could sing beautifully and every bird was envious of her powerful, striking voice.

That was probably another reason why they teased her so much.


The other was a boy bird.

His name was Red Breast because he had a handsome red breast, just like a robin.

He did not talk much and always wore a cold expression, but he being handsome,

he was just considered as mysterious and sparked the hearts of many girl birds.


Then one day, things started to happen.

Red Breast, who with others had always made fun of Clear Voice, started to change.

His looks toward Clear Voice got tenderer,

and his once stony expression started blooming into laughter whenever she was nearby.

They were constantly near each other and always exchanging secret glances and jokes.

At dinner one day, Clear Voice even brought Red Breast the biggest worm!
