Event:

Trip to the African-American Museum,
4/16/05
On Saturday, April 16th, the children at MI #1 were invited to an outing to the Charles H. Wright African American museum.
About the Experience:

Our children truly enjoyed this event!  All the children experienced moments of excitement, surprise, and even fear while going through this powerful exhibit.  It was truly important to us to show our children that African-American history is important all year round, not just in February.

One staff member commented, "the children were so excited.  They kept pulling me through the exhibit, saying 'hey look at this,' or 'come and look at this over here.'"  She went on to say how the excitement of the children was truly inspiring.
About the Museum:

The museum is the largest of its kind in the world!  Scaling 200,000 square feet, the museum started as a converted mobile home.  Dr. Charles Wright visited an exhibit on World War II heroes in Denmark and decided that African Americans also should have an exhibit celebrating their history.  The museum was originally founded in 1965, and has moved several times in its 40 year history before settling in its glamourous downtown home on E. Warren Ave.

For those who have visited and disappointed in the past, it is definitely time to give the museum a second chance.  The museum's feature exhibit "And Still I Rise," is a powerful journey from pre-historic Africa to present day Detroit.

The museum can also be used for meetings, events, galas, and more.  Show your support for the museum by attending, purchasing a membership, or considering having your next major event there.  We should all work towards preserving such an important part of our history.  Visit the museum at:
