Suiseki or "viewing stones" Often displayed along side Bonsai. Suiseki are small, naturally formed stones collected for their beauty and their power to suggest a natural landscape or an object associated with nature. The term suiseki means literally "water stone". It is derived from the ancient custom of displaying miniature landscape stones in trays filled with water. |
Kusamono, or "Accent plants" Kusamono are complimentary accent plants often shown alongside Bonsai. Originally only beautiful grasses were used as accent plants, and this is how we get the word Kusamono, with kusa meaning grass and mono meaning object or thing. The accent plant can evoke a certain mood, season, time of day, or perhaps contrast the image the bonsai establishes with its composition and style |
As well as Bonsai, The association also has a strong interest in Suiseki and Kusamono, which are both intrinsically linked to the appreciation of Bonsai. |
