Can't Hear the Loons . . .

Loons If you cannot hear the plaintive cry of the loons now . . . they really are there . . . or when you are viewing the home page, you may need to configure your browser to play wave sound files. Check the "Help File' associated with your browser to find instructions on how to accomplish this task.

If you are using one of the Netscape browsers, Netscape has provided a page on their web site with many of the plug-ins required to make Web pages run on their browser. You want a plug-in that will allow Navigator or Communicator to run .wav audio files.

. . . and then again, you could save yourself a lot of trouble and download the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser from their web site and view this site as it was intended.

Browser Blues . . .

The pages for this Web site have been written around HTML 3.2 standards and employ "Java" and "JavaScript" code. The code has been checked using Netscape Navigator 3.01, Netscape Communicator (Navigator) 4.01, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 and no significant problems have been found with these browsers. You may experience some problems with your browser if you received it as part of a subscription service (ie., Prodigy, AOL, CompuServe, etc.). Frequently, their browsers are modified versions of the original browsers provided by Netscape or Microsoft and some key components may have been removed which compromise performance. Tips and Tricks

To get the most out of these pages, the following settings are recommended:
  • Set your monitor screen resolution to 800x600x256.
  • In your Netscape 3.x browser, enable Java and JavaScript. To do this click Options / Network Connections and then check "Enable JavaScript" and "Enable Java".
  • In your Netscape Communicator browser, click Edit / Preferences / Advanced and then check "Enable JavaScript" and "Enable Java".
  • In your Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x browser, click View / Options / Security tab then check "Enable Java Programs" under Active Content. Click Advanced tab then check "Enable Java JIT Compiler". These items should be checked by default when the browser was installed.
