January 2001 Oro Grande New Mexico
This was our last outing of 2000 in Oro Grande N.M. A little cold and wet, but had a lot of good food and a good time. Even found a little gold.

We may not find much gold but that doesn't stop us from eating good and having a good time. This is our year 2000 Christmas get together.

In the summer months we set up at the El Paso Flee market to promote our chapter and gold prospecting. Stop by and see us some time. There is always a cold soda on hand.

This is in Nogal New Mexico at a pay claim owned by Tom Deal (1-505-257-4070) some days there is enough water for high bank or 2" dredge. Lots of trees and camping.

We try to have a demonstrations or speakers at or monthly meetings. This meeting we demonstrated three dry washers. A Pack Washer, Keene Gold Buddy, and Hand Crank. A 5 gal bucket of material was put through each machine with 15 pieces of 16 mesh gold in each. At the end all three dry washers keep all the gold. Believe it or not the hand crank was the fastest but I wouldn't want to run 4 or 5 yards through it by my self. Thanks Tony for putting up the muscle

This is the GPAA claim in Oro Grande N. M. (No Trees No Shade and No Water.) in the Jarilla hills about 50 miles NE of El Paso, Texas. 1905-1918 production was 18,600 gold oz. (lode gold with 3 oz of silver to every oz of gold). Placers are being worked today mostly by dry wash methods. We used a home made sluice box this trip with 4,000 gph pump and 40 gal. tank. Works good but water is real dirty after the first yard, and you lose about 35 gal per yard.
Nov. 22 1997 at the first El Paso chapter outing at Oro Grande New Mexico.
A dry wash is the preferred way to get the gold in the Jarilla hills. This one is operated by a blower blowing through a fan with a counter weight.
The first weekend in April some of our members showed a group of boys from Southwest Christian Fellowship in El Paso what it was like to be a gold prospector. If your group would like to join as on one of our outings just let one of the chapter officers know our e-mail me for info.
This is a hand crank dry wash its much quieter, but you know you have done a days work.
This setup is a good way to get all the gold, as your dry wash will loose most of the fines. It's a lot better than cranking on that hand crank to.
Clean up was fun. And yes they got to see some gold.
