Mayon Volcano Calms Down

Manila--Thousands of villagers living near a Philippine volcano returned home Wednesday, a day after it belched ash-laden steam four miles into the air, officials said. After the volcanic explosion Tuesday, 3,400 villagers living close to Mayon Volcano sought shelter in local schools, said Roleo Batong, Legazpi city administrator. The volcano is in Albay province, 210 miles southeast of Manila.
