Yosemite Valley is the heart of Yosemite National park. It consists of only 3% of Yosemite National Park but plays host to over 90% of it's visitors. Flowing through the Valley is the scenic Merced river, feed by dozens of waterfalls. The Valley is about 3 miles wide and 7 miles long, surrounded by granite cliffs ranging in height from 2 to 4 thousand feet above the Valley floor. The Valley contains stores, giftshops, restuarants, hotel lodging and campgrounds. For activities it has horseback riding, rafting, outdoor ice skatting (only in the winter), hiking, climbing and just about every other out door activity you can think of. The picture above is taken near the southern enterance of Yosemite National park and is the site that greets most visitors. On the left is El Capitan. The waterfall on the right is Bridalveil Falls. In the far center distance you can just make out Half Dome.
