This past fall, my wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary by traveling to Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia! We had an awsome time and took about 15 rolls of film.

We stayed in Sooke on Vancouver Island. It is about 1 hour west of Victoria, and a completely different world. Fog was common, and the place just had it's own personality. We actually stayed at a place @ 20 minutes west of Sooke, called Point-no-Point, after 2 spots on the coast line referenced in local lore. The place was incredible. Our unit (only $70US per night), part of a 4-plex, was very rustic with pine board walls, a small kitchenette, 2-person dining table, then 2 steps down to the couch facing the sliding glass doors with ocean views, and wood stove (with glass doors). The bed was on the left side of the room living room. I lit a fire in the wood stove each night and kept the sliding glass door open to hear the ocean, and this is what we fell asleep to each night we were there.

The southern coast line on the island was pretty cool. The area's main industry is logging, and the beaches were littered with logging debris. It more added to the feeling of the place than detracted. Not really a place to go lie out on the beach (go to the Carribean for that), but more of a place to explore. We drove around the island a lot, but really only covered the southern part.

We stayed 2 nights at Point-no-Point. If you ever go to Vancouver Island, you must eat at the Point-no-Point restuarant. We had the absolutely BEST dinner of our lives there. Totally romantic table overlooking the strait and Olympic Mountain range and the food was heavenly.

We then moved to Victoria for a night at an old victorian B&B, the Pit Carin. Very nice and a typical B&B. Victoria was fun and we walked around the city for half a day or so and took a lot of pictures of the buildings and waterfront. My wife loved the hanging baskets on every streetlamp!
